Bought my car brand new in June of 2007. Other than a recent hit and run a few weeks ago my car has been solid. My insurance totaled my car because of some minor cosmetic issues from the hit and run, it’s mechanically in great condition. Bumper, hood, and grille was damaged. They also said headlights were damaged too but they are still working and looks fine. My car was valued at $6200, so I bought my car back for a little less than $500 and paid the $500 deductible and they gave me back over $4800.
A friend hooked me up with an S4 that was getting demolished cause of motor issues and said I can take whatever parts I needed. I took the s4 bumper, hood, trunk, door blades, mirror caps, and recaro front and rear seats. Now I just gotta paint or wrap my car and it’s good as new!

Here’s some before and after photos.

The damage from hit and run, hard to see in pictures, more noticeable in person. They left a fake number...

Swapped s4 parts. Didn’t have the trunk on yet in this pic.

That little bump was the best thing that ever happened to you. [o_o]'s like [up] grade city on the cheap [:)]

Yeah I actually got all those parts for free. Lol. My buddy probably wouldn’t have even hit me up about the s4 if my car didn’t get damaged.

I am so confused. So they paid you the market value (times some 90%ish fudge factor)- 500 dollar deductible, but also allowed you to buy the car back for $500 dollars directly from the insurance company? Is this normal? I've never been through the process. Just curious.

Yes. I’ve never been in this situation before either but I guess that’s the way it goes.

Yeah. I've owned my car since March-ish of 2006. Can't seem to part with it. It has been driving me crazy lately though so I've given it some thought.

I thought about selling it so many times just because, but I never went through with it. This is my first brand new car and it’s been nothing but good to me. Plus it isn’t even worth much anymore so not even worth it anymore. Haha

Original owner here with my 2008 A4 Avant - currently 157,000 km (96,000 mi). Wheel bearings didn't last as long as I thought they should; all replaced at 130,000km but rest has been regular maintenance; has original clutch and I plan on keeping her for many more years, especially since you can't buy manual Audi's over here any more.

I’m still on original clutch and brakes and I’m just under 91,000 miles right now. I’m getting new pads and rotors this week though. Good to see a lot of original owners still around.

I’m on my original clutch as well but I think it’s had all it can take. Will be changing it soon.

Dude that sucks ballz leaving this kind of info, I guess he/she was being watched and tried pretending to be honest. Here in Southern CA we spent more time chasing down hit and runs by uninsured dark tinted-window Nissans with oversized chromed out wheels than I lost count. But damn, I guess that was the best thing ever happened to you. Also an original owner here - 99% stock (minus 1% for light classy smoke tint).
