View Full Version : 3.0 tfsi single pulley tune got 300hp at wheel normal?

Had 2012 a7 3.0 tfsi single pulley tune, just had dyno run today, it got 304hp at wheel, what that equal to fly wheel? I got the aftermarket cooler, the tuner did an custom tune, obviously not Apr program.
Is this normal for engine with single pulley tune have around this power level or my tuner is holding back too much

Depends on the dyno and....you guessed it... the tune. Stock S4s put down around that much on some dynos. Different dynos can very up to 15% so don't get too hung up on the numbers. Dynos are more useful to measure relative gains and improvements rather than actual true power and torque.

The more appropriate question is what was the gain over stock on the same dyno. If you didn't do a stock dyno it's really hard to tell if thats low.

Sounds like this was done on a mustang dyno. Stock S4’s average around 275-285whp on this dyno. So it seems like you got a 20whp gain with your mods.
Your numbers seem to be very similar to my previous setup. I ran a Chipwerke w/ upper pulley & e85 and got 308whp on a mustang dyno.

Wow only 20 who gain, wtf, is it because of the tune? If I get an Apr tune I should get much more? Yeah it just don't feel like the night day difference with stock and tuned like some people reviewed with single pulley tune

Is it normal for this gain or I have been ripped off by my tuner? Apr stage 2 single pulley tune claim u can get around 430hp with single pulley tune, how is that compare to mine set up? I got the upper pulley wheel, air intake, cooler, and a custom tune, only 20 whp gain, I feel like being rip off bad

My tuner never did an stock dyno run, he told me 304hp on his dyno equal to 360 hp on Apr dyno, but still far off from the Apr stage 2 single pulley tune claim, should I just go to a different tuner or just buy the Apr tune instead? Cause the gain only 20whp is ridiculous

You are getting mixed up with hp at the wheels and crank hp. APR for whatever stupid reason has a lot of their number posted as crank hp. There is roughly 22% drivetrain loss if you are automatic so factor for that.

That is low though since my S4 with a single pulley tune made 343whp on a mustang dyno and with 91 watery gas.

If your tuner is telling the truth about 304hp on his dyno equaling 360hp on APR. That would put you at about 355 whp on APR's dyno. Which is about stage 1 APR power, at the wheels. It's actually still short of that about 10whp.

Is it because of the tune? Should I try a different tuner or just buy the Apr program instead? Seriously I did not feel the night day difference with stock and tuned especially the top end, coming from an 320 rkw Ford I kind of feel disappointed with my mod. Is it worth the extra money to do another tune or proberly just my car.
My tuner said mine is 2012 a7 3.0 tfsi, it come with an order ecu unit which can not compare to later face-lift ecu even the same 3.0 tfsi engine, is that true or he just bullxxt me, I feel like been ripped off by this guy

Stage 1 or Stage 2 APR Tune with single pulley?
What else on your car?
Those numbers seem approximate for a Stage 1 tune with a crank pulley. Need to stage 2 to see pulley benefit.

Of course apr will argue that 22% all day [emoji849]. 304whp with Stage 2 is awful. Most Stage 1 tunes put you well beyond that. Give or take that is 20-30whp over stock. Unless the dyno you used reads a stock car at 240ish awhp there is an issue. Log it, check intake temps, knock, etc. something is off for sure.

Who does a stage 1 Tune with a larger crank pulley? Makes no sense.

With Stage 2 and single pulley you should feel a ton more down low and notice a difference on the top end. As others have mentioned many tuners Stage 1 Tune without pulley puts you around 350whp give or take. I can’t speak for the A7 ecu but it’s still the same engine, the missing 70+ whp in concerning no matter how you look at it. Take it to a different dyno and see what it reads. I’d bet not much higher.

Don't know why youd go custom tune on this car unless you were doing crazy stuff. Stick with the guys with all that run history. Theres like 6 options.

@Whitee
No one who know what they are doing. Perhaps the tuner did this because Stage 2 plus single pulley should put car solidly in 450 hp range.
More with intake and other mods.

OP go check out APR’s website. It does look like they have different tunes depending on the ECU / TCU gens in your particular car.
Call APR give them your VIN# and they will tell you what their tune can do.
Their ECU/TCU combo for a7 looks like similar specs for the S4
I didn’t pay enough attention to your post to see the custom tune, but I think your custom tune is not so good.
You should know the what size and make crank pulley is on the car to share with them.
Hoping you have at minimum a performance intake as well.
Call APR man.

I agree; does it feel faster? Don't worry how long your penis is; just enjoy how much fun it is!

Do not take that as your gain. You have no idea what your gain is. My car has baselined anywhere from 265whp to 292whp on the exact same Mustang dyno bone stock and exact same weather conditions both times. One run the intake temps were lower. So you really have no idea what your gain was. A dyno session without baseline and datalogs becomes less useful
