So my windshield wiper chatters every time when they're a little wet and it's driving me nuts! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? I tried 3 new wiper blades, Bosch icons, Bosch aerotwin, and Audi OEM, they're all the same thing.

Do you have anything on the windshield, like Rain-X? That stuffs makes wipers chatter like crazy. I would suggest using a good glass stripper. That'll take anything off the glass that might be causing it.

Oh man not here too! I live in Seattle and one of the reason I sold my B5 S4 was because not matter what I tried I could not make my wiper chatter go away. And I tried:

- New wipers (nearly every brand I could, find plus euro aero style)
- New wiper arms (went to aero, and then back to a "new" set of stock arms)
- New wiper transmission
- New windshield itself (only a slight improvement)

I always wondered if a failing wiper motor was the problem. Maybe the torque was just not there to keep the motion smooth. I just never wanted to pay the price for a new wiper motor.

I wish you the best of luck in finding a solution.

I've always hated Bosch blades, they are terrible, and wear out fast. I've been running the same set of PIAA silicon wipers for well over a year and have had no issues!

2-3 years on my silicone piaa’s here and no chatter but they’ve started to smear a little.

A good clean with vinegar is supposed to work wonders, I’ll try that but if no luck I’ll just buy a new set

These are probably the 2 things I haven't tried yet.

Clay baring the glass helps keep the glass smooth by getting rid of the buildup and gives the wiper the best chance to do its job. Works just as well for glass as it does for paint.

I have the same issue with mine. I have tried everything from Clay bar to polishing. I have also taken it to the dealership and they did something to it without charging me and said if it didn’t work I might need a new windshield. This is completely unacceptable. I don’t understand why this happens.

This ^, don't use RainX, and use OEM wipers. You will be amazed how claying glass mimics Rain X if done once or twice per year.

I had this issue on my B8.5 A4 when I used to run a glass sealant on the windshield. I run the oem blades and tried everything to the point where I almost got a new windshield. Had the dealer inspect it many times and never found anything. I found that by cleaning the windshield with denatured alcohol and not putting any sort of glass sealant/rain-x, etc on it that it never chartered again. When I got the S4 it was doing the same thing, so I cleaned the windshield, replaced the blades with oem and haven’t had an issue since. Going on ~1.5 years without chatter on the same blades. Gonna replace them before winter just for good measure.

Claybar dat windshield. Had the same problem, thought it was because of rain-x, but really, the windshield just needed the contamination removed. Claybar-ed and no more chatter, even with rain-x applied after.

When one clay bars glass, does one need to polish it afterwards as one does with paint..? Or can one just clay bar away and stop..? :)

ChrisFix has a really helpful video on cleaning windshields. You don't necessarily "need" to polish it afterward, but if there are any imperfections/scratches, polishing will help to make them less visible (if not completely invisible).

Wow you sold your car because of windshield wipers. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I guess that truly bothered you.

It was more of an excuse to upgrade. But when you live in Seattle where it rains nearly every day between Mid Oct - May... it can cause you to go a little crazy listening and watching you crappy wipers sitting in traffic. I'm know it's pretty sad.
