Hi Guys,
After several years of diagnosing my low voltage problem, I've come to the conclusion that the alternator voltage regulator is at fault. These are what I did so far but to no success:

i) Changed the brush
ii) Changed the bearing
iii) Changed the slip ring
iv) Tested ground voltage drop - slightly high but not too worrying.
v) Checked any current leakage - non so far
vi) Added additional ground - only increased voltage to additional 0.2V
vii) Checked the current at full load (radio, aircond at full blast, headlight, engine hot) using a clamp meter - only registered max 53 Amps but charging voltage dropped to 12.2V

But there are several version of VR on the market according to Alternator-parts.com. The website shows two types of VR i.e. 14V and 14.7V.

Which one should I choose?

What year is your A4? That will help tell me which VR ya need. Post the specs on the car :)

Its a UK Audi A4 B5.5 FWD 1.8t engine code APU year 2001. Its equivalent (at least 98%) to the US ATW version.
