Hey guys,

I haven't been on here in a while, but I was out enjoying the S4 and cruising through the mountains today when the clutch pedal fell to the floor. I was doing some spirited driving, but nothing crazy because there was a decent amount of traffic with all the people looking at leaves.

I press the clutch in to go and down shift from 3rd to 2nd and the pedal goes really soft, goes all the way to the floor, won't come back up and won't let me shift into gear. I pulled the clutch pedal up with my hands then go to try it again and the same thing happens. Clutch goes all the way to the floor. I get over off the road, turn the car off, pop the hood and look around to see if anything is leaking or if something came disconnected. Nothing.

The car never did it again. Have any of you guys had a similar issue? My warranty is up in November and if it's a big issue, I'd like to get it into Audi to have it fixed before I start having to foot the bill.

Here's a photo of the leaves to say Thank you.

Clutch slave cylinder would be my guess.

See if you can get the dealer to replace it after explaining what you experienced. You don’t want to be suck on the side of the road.

Damn leaves are already changing?! Looks beautiful. I’m in NE and we still have a few more weeks until the color change.

Slave for sure. Check out my extended slaves if the dealer isn’t replacing for you! It’ll save you a lot of headache down the road! (Search “ghetto spacer” in this forum to find the push to start thread).

Also my thread has a DIY for Slave replacement. PM with any questions if you do it yourself!

Even if the dealer is replacing I would agree with jbullin2 here. I ordered one from him and it solved my issue with the car not wanting to start unless I mashed the clutch pedal.

I think some may experience this sooner or later due to the manual transmission design as clutch components wear out. Very annoyed when I couldn’t start my car..thought I was going to be stranded.

30k miles later and still no complaints.

How many miles do you have? Had this happen to me 20k miles and it's been 16k since. I'm under warranty for another year or two and really don't wanna have to worry about this so frequently as I make a lot of trips to the mountain

If you're clutch fell to the floor, you have bigger problems [:D]. I concur, replace slave and go with jbullin's extended one.

Slave Cylinder. Get a USP motorsports metal slave to replace.

Not necessarily. I had this issue (although not with a stock clutch or flywheel). It turned out to be the clutch partially fusing to the flywheel. But when I replaced that clutch I ended up needing the modified slave to get the car to start.

If the car isn’t tuned, I’d take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it since it’s still under warranty. Although, if it is the clutch, I’m fairly certain that it’s considered a wearable item and has a shorter warranty period than the rest of the car.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I ended up getting the car towed to the local Audi Dealership and when I told them about my complaints, they reimbursed me for the tow because they said they wouldn't expect me to drive the vehicle in under those conditions.

After they had the car for a night, they called me and said that they found the clutch slave was indeed cracked and leaking. The service advisor was amazing and even had the tech send me a video of the operation of the clutch, along with a vehicle condition report and a quick update on my tires and brakes. After speaking with the advisor, I asked if I could purchase a metal slave and upgrade the part so I don't have these issues in the future. He was happy to order one for me and I was responsible for the difference in price. They still installed it all under warranty.

They also said that they did a quick overall inspection of the vehicle, found that my ashtray lid chrome was pealing, and my passenger side tweeter was blown and replaced both of those parts for me! There are still some great guys that work in dealerships!

The car had 31,467 on it when it went into the shop.
