I hope all my local B8 S4 brethren are accounted for this morning.
Speed had to have been a factor.
Same exact color and wheel combo as my car. Jumped off the toilet to make sure it was still sitting in my driveway.

Speed had to be involved, no 'may have been' about that.
Not sure ABC 7 knows what SUVs look like.

If you ask me, driving like that is a bigger crime than stealing a car. No one should have to die for it, though.

The passenger compartment appears to have held up well considering, so maybe this is a case of no seatbelt use?

Dam, i pass that gas station all the time, same car and color as me. I can say this road people fly all the time, its a highway that turns into lights. combine that with being late at night and crappy weather lately.

I didn't read the news article, was busy. Just saw the comment mentioning thieves. Sucks that anyone died, but if it was a thief - then it is what it is.
And yes, driving without regard for others is a terrible thing.

If I am not mistaken, this could be the first fatality associated with a B8 car. Gas pump could have exploded!

They are referring to the vehicle as an SUV. I swear it seems that nobody pays attention to details anymore.

So it appears no stolen car. Probably never know if he swerved to avoid something, was distracted or just lost control.

Media cares little about delivering a story accurately any more, only being the first.

The incident happened at 2:10 a.m. at the Sunoco Gas Station on the corner of Veterans Memorial Highway and Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
The driver of the 2013 Audi, 27-year-old Hector Sanchez, Jr., and his passenger, 24-year-old Shawn Jenkins, Jr., became trapped in the vehicle, which caught fire when it crashed.
The Commack Fire Department responded to the scene and cut the men from the SUV, but both young fathers were pronounced dead at the scene.

ever heard of someone catching a thief in the process of stealing their car and going "oh shoot, im sorry."?
this usually ends up in a violent situation or a gun pointed at the owner. thieves are ALWAYS armed and not up for a fist fight.
car thieves are pieces of shit who has nothing to lose. so yeah, if they were thieves, good riddance. i hope the owner gets full compensation for a b9.

I'm really not sure what this is supposed to tell me. Firstly, the S4 isn't even on the list. And secondly, the entire report focuses on only model year 2011 cars.

No, it doesn't. But stealing a car, driving recklessly, crashing, and losing your life as a result of those horrible decisions is much less "tragic."

I don’t believe this car was stolen, I think it was the owners. As stated before a few mornings ago it was extremely foggy, and that road people fly down during the day I can only imagine at night. Mix it with Fog, well you get something like this...

Debatable.
Someone who is willing to steal a car is likely also willing to drive recklessly in an effort to avoid being caught. This would inevitably lead to putting other innocent lives on the road at risk. I don't see how you could argue that the life of the thief is even remotely as "valuable" as the innocent lives they end up endangering.
Also, I have to believe that someone who steals a car is likely the same type of person who would be willing to break into a house. And I can assure you that if someone broke into my house, especially while myself and my family were home, the "value" of the thief's life would equate to absolutely nothing to me.
Regardless, it doesn't sound like this incident had anything to do with a stolen car.

I also agree that this just looks like reckless driving in poor conditions. Most likely not theft.

So where in the coverage of the accident does it say the car was stolen...? Why is that even a question? Just rhetorical no answers needed.

That's what the previous poster was alluding to. It's a statistic that has been mentioned before in the forum.
The data is from IIHS, it was published for 2011 (encompassing 2009-2011) and the A4 had zero fatalities reported in that period for 120,000 vehicle years in that 2 year period. There is no separate entry for S4, if you look at the combined A4/S4 sales numbers from that time interval it's consistent with the number of vehicle years studied in the IIHS publication so the A4 entry likely encompasses the S4 as well, but this is unconfirmed. In any case, it's moot because the next interval 2014 (2011-2014) there were 15 fatalities reported over 202,000 vehicle years.

So like I said, dozens of fatalities (as opposed to zero).

At the time, none of us knew if any of that happened. The simple fact that someone is a thief doesn't mean their life is less valuable. Now, if they WERE doing the things you guys assumed and they took innocent people's lives, I can see your point.

You OK, buddy? Not every thief is armed and looking to possibly kill other people. Calm down.

Very true. In this case, all the stolen car talk was just wild speculation... and speculation that appears to be completely off base, anyway.
I don't see any evidence of fire or an SUV. You sure this just isn't a case of the wrong photo being used in the story?
*EDIT: watched the video, right car, but still don't see any fire evidence.

Look at the hood.
As for the SUV..... ABC 7 is just an idiot.
EDIT:
Here is a news report detailing the vehicle (S4), and that it was on fire. If you watch the video, it's pretty clear there was fire involved.

Yeah, I guess the dashboard looks melted. Definitely wasn't burning for long. The white column it hit has zero soot.

Yes it is. They got the car type (SUV) wrong, but that is the description that goes with the photo. Watch the news footage I posted earlier.
