I have a 2002 A6 4.2 with sport package... I am experiencing heavy vibration on up to 75mph, but starts to smooth out at 80+mph. I think this might be a drive shaft out of balance. I am worried that it might be shaking problems into the transmission now. The drive train shutters violently between gear shifts sometimes.. it feels almost like a bad coil, but I'm not sure if that's it this time. Can anyone comment on this? thanks.

Id check your wheels for a bend or tires for runnout first. Its the cheapest and easiest place to start.

4.2 trannys arent the best in the world. Did you just buy it?? if so, have the fluid checked at your DEALER. They are the only ones with the tools to fill them. Quick-lube places sometimes drain them on accident and then cant refill them. It takes synthetic fluid that is costly, but so is a tranny..

Thanks for the input... I do know that one wheel is slightly bent, but i keep that on the rear. I've had wheels slightly bent before, but the effect wasn't quite so dramatic. I do believe that the low rpm shuttering under acceleration is due to a bad coil though. I believe this because it seems to only happen when it's raining with plenty of moisture in the air. This same thing happend to one of my trucks in the rain for some reason. I believe I'll get another rim of have this one repaired and see if that's where the problem is. Thanks!
