View Full Version : Audi Mechanic Referral (North) Dallas

I was wondering if someone could refer either an independent mechanic, or motorsports garage in Dallas (preferably north), that would be up to doing a 2.7TT swap into a B6. I've already tried both ZinkWerks and Blair to name a couple, and I never even get past the first person to answer the phone after I tell them what I am looking to do. I'm not even asking them to build the motor if they are unable since there are online options for those, just need someone to swap it out. I can do the additional electrical work myself (AC, fans, etc) if it came to that. I just can't believe there isn't a motorsports garage out there in a market as big as DFW that doesn't do this type of work, so any references would be appreciated. If I'm just not getting through to the correct people at the places I've mentioned, I'd be willing to try them again if anyone has any pointers. (Do you feel my frustration?)

I have had a great experience with Blair Automotive, they did both my APR Stage 1 & 2 upgrades, crank pulley upgrade and supercharger pulley upgrade... but a few things I inquired about - just didn't seem in their wheelhouse. I wanted to add paddle shifters to my A6, for example, and they quickly said they don't do that. So please share if you find a resource...

I just tried Zinkwerks again and I got the hard blow off this time, "Steve pays me to answer the phone because he is the owner, and this shop doesn't want to do that type of work..... I know Steve and he wouldn't want to do that." ...... So anyway, we're back to getting a referral, not Zink and not Blair.

I know its been years since I originally posted on this thread, but I finally found an Audi engine builder in North Texas(which was part of my original post). PowerDynamix in McKinney. If anyone is interested I will be reviewing them (in my other "review" thread) once I get the long block back and installing it hopefully this summer. I am doing the swap myself with parts and some technical support by Audis4parts.com (Phil Roberts) who specializes in 2.7(B5) to B6 swaps. I've had a local friend help me pull the motor and trans, but it looks like he is bowing out for the rest so its on me to finish the swap.
I'm considering rebuilding the O1E 6-speed myself because it has 200k miles on it, but if anyone knows of a local North Texas transmission shop with experience with these that might be helpful. I've tried calling some local trans shops and they say they have no experience with them, but they'd give it a go, and the price is $2k+/-. Thats not what I'm looking for here. Alternatively, has anyone had their O1E recently replaced by the Audi dealership? I'm curious if anyone knows what the price of an O1E rebuilt trans would go for if I bought one direct from them?
