I bought this car 3 years ago, it was pretty well setup from the past owner but coming from 500-600hp B5 S4's I wanted more so I continued to mod the car and to my surprise it became very fun and is faster overall than my past B5's. The car has been incredibly reliable and seems like despite the 112K miles on the clock it has a long way to go. So my question is, should I keep this car and jump on the ported blower bandwagon etc. or should I sell it and buy something else? To keep things in perspective I can't afford an RS3 so don't even go there, are there any other audi's in the market of $30K or under that have more potential than this car as a daily drive, reliable, and fast fun alternative? Also, if I keep it, where is the best place to source RS4 fenders since my last B5 was a wide body converted RS4 clone.

I think you have already answered you own post. Lol. What else for the money? Nothing really.

I went with to mod route. I always traded my cars ( SI, G35, STI) after 2 years of ownership . I lost endless amount with each purchase with trading in the older car. I'm at 47k, car is stock except for chipwerke, intake and awe exhaust. I thought long and hard about trading in , I looked at my options. Relatively speaking, only upgrade to me would have been a slightly used GTR,WHICH I WOULD HAVE LOVED. however, it would have financially strained me my s4 is almost paid off. During the 4 years of ownership, My car was hit while parked twice , so I know moiy trade in value is to $hit. So I decided to get a BBK, wheels , drop and found a decent deal on an EPL TUNE. all on all, It was about 4k spent. Hopefully it will be worth it. All parts are pending install, so I don't have any feedback yet but I say mod it

S6's are starting to go sub $30k depending on miles. That car has more go fast potential. However, guys seem to be blowing turbos left and right in the C7 section. In that case apparently you just have to go stage 3 with RS turbos. [evilsmile]

Elijah- Haven't seen your name in a forum post in quite some time. Didn't even know you had a B8, and a nicely modded one at that! Still miss seeing your widebody B5 S4 Avant.
You didn't mention if the replacement car has to be manual tranny or not. If I know you I suspect you'd like to continue to row your own. Problem is no one makes a man trans anymore. If you're simply looking for something in the 4 ring family that's faster I'd say look at a C7 S6: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/735199993/overview/
No slouch, but no third pedal either. Yeah they weigh more and won't turn as well as what you have but god damn they're quick and friggin luxurious inside. Lots of them approaching that magical $30k figure. In other words, hard to beat.
Otherwise continue to mod the B8, find the edge of that envelope for the rest of us :)

If you go the S6 budget for turbos, a tune and probably downpipes. That will get you well above where you want to be so yeah. So yeah time to Mod the S4. [emoji16]

I think if you aren't close to being able to afford what you truly want next then just stick with what you have. Otherwise you'd be overreaching and/or might have buyer's remorse.

I may be speaking early as a c7.5 owner we’re gaining ground on that issue and believe to have found the cause. Tiny screen that needs to be changed. Check out the s7 section for the thread.

Yes I did see APR's PSA post.
you are missing out without a larger crank pulley + ported blower, it does transform the car. Give that a shot to see if you are happy with it, then sell it if you aren't.

Hey Chad, good to see you on here too, I haven't been real active in the forums mostly because this car is so reliable I have just added bolt ons and driven with very few issues. I need to drive the S6, I love that motor. I only track my car once a year now so if I went to the S6 I would probably be done with that. Yea the auto trans will be hard to get used to as well but I realize at some point if I want to stay with newer models I will eventually be driving one.

You mean larger then the 184 I have on now? I thought the 184 was the perfect balance for not overspinning the charger and keeping intake temps in check? How much bigger do you think I should go?

i ponder similar thoughts in my mind daily. I'm still hung up one wanting an archaic ass six speed and have decided to keep the 3.0t until the g80 m3 has been out for two to three years and go after one of those provided the crank hub has been redesigned from the s55 and not just a reinforced bed plate. Otherwise, i really like the quadrifoglio and the rs3.

I don't think the hp/dollar works in your favor in these cars. Neither does the reliability outside of warranty.

I am in the same boat, owned 13 S4 for a couple of years. I looked into a 13 M5 but the yearly maintenance costs is extravagant since it would be a daily. I am currently stock and CPO warranty just expired. I am leaning towards stage 2, lighter wheels, and improving handling.

Thats a pretty different boat than me, mine is pretty heavily modified and setup all around. If I were you I would definitely go dual pulley and some good suspension, you will fall in love with the car again and it stays very reliable at that level.

For under $30k you can’t get much faster/reliable than a B8. My 13 S4 was side swiped/totaled and i was looking for a $30k option that was faster/as nice. I didn’t find one and purchased a 14 S4.
Putting RS fenders on the S sounds like an awesome idea, I’d love to see how that turns out.

I had full bolt ons on my S4 and it left me wanting more, but it was still a car I wish I could have kept and got my TT RS too.
But now that I have the TT RS in so happy with the 2.5 5cyl and the potential it has vs my S4. If you can wait and snag an RS 3 down the line I would, or even a used S6.

Well, I know it’s not an Audi, but I figured I’d share my .02. If you really want fast and somewhat reliable for 30k then go American. Mustang 5.0s, Camaro’s, Chevy SS sedans, etc with lower miles than your S4 and bolt ons would walk most of our cars pending the driver skill, etc. They’ve even gotten pretty good at handling and the interiors/other design elements aren’t as vulgar as they used to be. I have respect for them.
I know that doesn’t answer your question and personally I would still choose my S4 10x over any Mustang or Camaro/American offering. However, you can’t argue with how fast they can be for cheap.
Regarding your question, I agree with a lot of the other people on here. I’d say look at what an S6 can do for you if you really want to move on from the S4.
Otherwise, keep the S4 and make her faster :)
