View Full Version : How is Sepang Blue for showing dirt?

I have an Interlagos Blue '08 M5, and one of the things about it that bugs the hell out of me is how easily it shows dirt, dust, pollen, etc. The color is beautiful in the bright sunlight, especially when clean, but even sitting in the garage, it gathers enough dust to show pretty quickly.
I was planning on a silver S4 as a replacement. I would really like to find a Volcano Red S4, but those are apparently super hard to come by. I do like the Sepang Blue as well, but I am concerned about how much it shows dirt. Is it going to be one of those colors where I perpetually feel compelled to clean it (like black or dark blue) or is it something where it still looks good for a while after a wash (like silver)?

Honestly, I don't think it's that bad. My garage has been occupied with tools/materials from the deck I've been building so I've had the car outside for the last 2 months and haven't been able to do a proper wash or wax in that time. I drove to a winery last weekend and was staring at the car from 20 feet away and thought it looked outstanding.
I think it's one of those things where it looks good from a distance unless you have mud caked on, but looks dirty with the right lightning/distance.
Edit: snapped a pic after I got home. Haven't washed it in at least a month in a half.

I don't think its bad at all. I've only had it a few months, but seems to always look like a sexy bitch to me!

It holds up much better to light dirt than my old Deep Sea Blue.

If you are worried about showing dirt, get a Silver or Gray car. Let the Sepang for someone that appreciates the color for what it is, Beautiful. Dirt washes off. Silver will be silver and neve,r IMHO,look as great as Sepang. Good luck trying to find a Volcano. Very few were made. You could get lucky, but prepare yourself to drive a good distance to get it if you really want one.

It isn't the worst I have had, but I wash my car every other week. After a ceramic coat it is just stunning and stays pretty clean.

Sean is a medim blue with a fair amount of metallic so it is better than darker blues (or any dark color) for showing normal dirt. Grey is better for dirt, but never pops like the Sepang blue. Silver is the same...good on dirt but never seems to glisten like Sepang. I'm really picky on washing and detailing my cars and I think that medium intensity/saturation colors do better regarding showing dirt.
Sepang blue is one of my absolute favorite colors to own and require's minimal care.

I wash my car at least once every other week, and would be happy if it would stay clean-looking even half that long.

I wash mine just about every weekend as it sits outside during the week. Glad the yellow pollen season is finally over in NE.

I just got my Sepang S4 a month ago, but have had the similar colored 350Z since bought new in 2003. It's about medium for showing dirt. Not as hard to maintain as all my previous black or midnight blue cars, but also not as forgiving as something like a white car when you consider wear and tear showing in the form of micro scratches/swirls.
But to me, it's very rewarding when it is clean and shiny.
After 15 years, I still get compliments on how good the 350Z looks.

I’m sorta OCD with a clean car. Sepang is a great color and not bad for showing dirt. Break dust on the other hand is horrible. Wheels are coated in like 50 miles. Lol

Glad to hear everyone speaking so highly of the Sepang Blue. I really do like the color, so if it won't give me undue grief, I'd love to have one. (Still would LOVE LOVE LOVE a Volcano Red, but I think I can be happy with a Sepang Blue.)

I hate brake dust too. The OEM pads on my '08 M5 were super dusty. I switched to Centric Posiquiet on that car and they are much less dusty and less grabby, but they do see to occasionally leave deposits on the rotors, causing pedal pulsations after the brakes are warm.
I put a set of Epic Friction pads on my Mustang, which are supposed to be quiet, clean, and stop well. Surprisingly, they do seem to fit the bill. If I get an S4, I'll put a set on it as well. https://www.epicfriction.com/index.php/2012-2017-audi-s4.html Also, I was able to get a small discount (IIRC ~15%) when I called to order instead of ordering via the website. Not huge, but hey, it's still $30+ on a $200+ set of brake pads. I dunno if that's an ongoing thing, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Jealous of all the pics. If I could have found one with Magma interior, I would have had it, but Magma was the priority.

Thats funny cause the Magma interior was a deal breaker for me, and I turned away from several S4s because I just can't stand the way it looks. IMO it should have been a much more subtle red like they use on BMWs.

IMHO, Panda should have been standard in all Sepang.

Agreed--heck, standard on everything! I am not a fan of the all-black interior.

Understood, but that Magma was not on several Sepang S4s, right?

Here you go. AOA said I have the only 2016 s4 6mt w/ sport diff in sprang blue over magma. It also has the ADS suspension. Not sure how many 2014-2015 there are.

I've put down a deposit on a '15 Prestige Sepang Blue and am picking it up in a little over a week--guess I'll find out first person how well it does at fending off dirt!

Traded mine in, but hands one of my favorite colors I have ever owned on a car. With proper paint correction and a cermaic coating it really shines.

god damn those rotors look sweet with the sepang. I wish I had them instead of the peelers.

Thanks man! I have peelers with A/S for off season, and I think both sets look good on the color.
