Hello All,
Any of you ever have an issue with your water pumps failing?
i have 55k in my 2015 s4. The car is in for its 3rd water pump.

All 3 times I figured there was a problem is when I would take the front engine cover off to clean the engine bay. On the underside of the front cover there would be coolant residue. Its not much coolant, not enough for it to leak on the ground. I took it into the dealer to see if everything was normal and all 3 times they told me the water pump is getting replaced. Audi told me the leak occurs at the shaft were the pulley sits on.

Any body have this issue, Any solutions? I don't want to be putting in water pumps every 15k miles.

Thanks

One solution might be to buy a different brand of water pump. And while the supercharger is off, replace the T stat ,coolant tube and change the oil in the supercharger

I recently replaced mine. It was leaking from two of the weep holes. I did not pull the SC and it is not needed. New "updated" water pump did not have the aforementioned weep holes.

Just picked up my 2016 S4 on Friday. Was about to hit 55,000 km so I took her in for the major service today. Got a call at noon and was told the water pump was leaking and they’d need it for the day to replace it. Thankfully it’s under warranty but hoping this won’t be an ongoing issue... I’ll find out tomorrow if they pulled the SC and replaced the thermostat too.

Great thanks guys. I was looking on ECS and GAP but am having a really hard time finding what part is the cross-over pipe. Does anyone have a link or part#?

3rd water pump in 55k miles is a lot. Are they purposefully installing defective water pumps, or what?

For those that get the dealership to say that their water pump is leaking, ask to see it yourself or get a second opinion if it's not blindly obvious.

Dealership told me I was leaking coolant, but I checked under the hood before taking it in for service and it was clean. Decided to get a second opinion from an independent enthusiast shop, they didn't find anything. They filled me up to Max coolant line and I just kept an eye on it for a week, no level change.

Careful of their BS, especially if you're out of warranty like me.

The updated water pump should not have any issues. My car has 75k miles and the water pumps that the vehicle came with is the updated design. No failure.

What it eventually does is leak. Cost is $100. But if the SC is already off and the car has significant mileage,it might be prudent to replace it while there is access.
