Just turned 51. Track days keep me young....
EDIT: This is my 3rd Audi (others were B5A4 and B6S4) -- all are manual transmissions. Level of mods to the cars have decreased slightly as I've gotten older. I've had this B8 for only a few months; went Unitronics stg 1 a month ago and will go to stg 2 soon. I've tracked my cars for 20 years -- excited to see what this one will do on the track.

I wanted to buy a 6MT but after a 20 mile test ride in traffic,I ordered a DSG, No regrets ! I have always owned on MT cars since my very first new car in 1969. But the DSG is loads of fun w/o the hassle in traffic.

That's pretty much exactly what I did. I have generally had manual cars my entire life (a few SUV's notwithstanding). My A6 was [obviously] an automatic, and man, does it make life easier. I looked at the DSG in the S4 as a perfect compromise, which is why a B9 S4 will not be my next car.

even though its still a small sample size its very interesting data you're collecting. I figured the mean would be in 30's somewhere. very encouraging to see the 40+ and 50+ folks on here too!

A few of my first cars were automatics but transitioned into manuals. My last 3 vehicles were manuals with the exception of my TDI sportswagen. Even in DC traffic I still enjoy the manual crazy as it may seem

This poll won’t give you the average age of owners, but it will give you the average age of S4 owners that also frequent the forum. I’d guess that would shift the average age slightly lower since younger owners tend to be more involved with forums.

I'm in the under 5% group as of this posting.
Since I was 19, all but one of my cars were/are MT, the one Auto I had lasted less than a year while the baby seat had to go in rear facing, also all my cars were/are modified, nothing stays stock!
As for the wife factor, my woman loves to take my car our for a spin on occasions, as she can drive MT like a champ and if she had to choose, she would take a MT over Auto at a drop as she has in the past. She does not question my mods as long as see does not see the price tags, in other words she is aware of the mods but asks me not to tell her what I spent on them. I'm also into bikes, guns and other outdoor sport activities and she is on board with all of them as well. I guess that's why we still have a great marriage!
On a side note, my last car I sold was a B7 A4, MT, Stg2, full exhaust, HFC, Shortshifter, many, many other mods, the person who bought it was about a 30 year old woman, tall, slender blond, maybe Swedish, came with her brother who brought his laptop to scan my car to make sure all was legit. While test driving, she shifted gears so smoothly, I felt like I should be asking her for driving lessons! She said that between her Mom/Dad, brothers, etc., all they drive are Audis and most at M/T!

To be honest, I'm really surprised by the number of 26-30 y/o owners. Though, I guess as the number of higher mileage B8/B8.5's hit the market at lower prices, it makes it easier for the younger crowd to get their hands on them. I watched this trend happen first hand with my old GR STI. I know everyone's financial situation is different but I sure as hell couldn't comfortably afford a $50k+ car in my 20's.
Personally, I'm 33 with a '14 S4. I came from the Subaru world but as I reached my 30's I got sick of the unwanted attention my STI used to get from the younger crowd. I switched to the S4 and as I've modded it to my liking I've started to get a lot of 'thumbs up' and rolled down window comments at stop lights. But now the attention comes from a bit older crowd driving BMW's, Mercedes. Lexus and Audi's. The younger crowd tends to look the other way, which is a nice bonus.

I think if we conducted this poll in the real world, the results would have been a little different, as I'm sure there are a lot more, older S4 owners out there, they just don't frequent online forums.

LOL! My wife absolutely refused to let go of her Mazda 3 with 5-speed even at 150k miles because she didn't want to get something that was an automatic. We needed an SUV and she loved the CX-5 but damn near didn't get it because she couldn't get it in a manual. She made the sales guy ask at least 4 other people in the dealership to confirm she couldn't get it in a manual before she finally gave in. 2 years later and she still hates driving the damn thing.
As such, my next vehicle will probably be an SQ5 or similar so she can get a nice little 5-speed 4 door car again. The best part is she's a doctor in her final year of residency and about to be able to afford pretty much any realistic car she wants. But she will inevitably get another new Mazda 3 (if she can get it in manual) and drive that thing until it dies.

I turn 36 in about three weeks. I bought my 2014 S4 almost exactly 1 year ago at age 34, as a graduation present to myself after finishing nursing school, and promptly began modding it. :D
I was recently accepted into a Doctor of Nursing Practice program at University of Arizona that starts in August, and I plan to trade up to an RS (or SQ7 if they bring the damn thing over!) when I graduate again in a few years.

45, 62k miles, 6MT, APR Stage 2+, custom cat back, a few other things, bought her new in November 2011 when stationed in Northern Italy. First "grown-up" car. Replaced my 2005 Focus 5-Speed with the Audi. As others have said, in large part because of the stick-shift. Thought about a BMW, but decided the Audi was classier. Brought back to the States in September 2015. Dropping her off for shipment to Morocco in early July. Likely to have to have a shop pop the hood for me so I don't make a bigger mess (I mean who can't sort out a hood latch.. really... <sigh>). Hopefully sell when we leave Morocco in five years and then buy an RS7 (?) (a man can dream...)

67 years old. That makes me the second oldest person so far. The first Audi I bought was a new 1987 5000 Turbo Quattro, during the unintended acceleration fiasco that started in 1986. It was the first car I owned where I had the ECU modified. Ned Richie of Intended Acceleration swapped out the ECU, and a new quick and easy modification became available. Every car I have bought has been a manual. Wife and daughter both drive manuals. Everything I own that moves, bicycles, motorcycles, and cars are modified.

38 here. I loved my previous car; I had a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 that I bought new. That car was a bit of a sleeper and it was a ton of fun to drive. Over the years she started getting ill, needed about 1-2 quarts of oil after every gas fill-up. Eventually she ended up in hospice and died. I loved the easy it sounded with the 3" single pipe catback, and other mods. I kind of miss the sound the most, since the S4 seems so quiet the way it is now.
My criteria were 4 doors, AWD, 6-speed manual, and >300HP. That really narrows things down, and I didn't want a Subaru. For months I was casually keeping an eye out for '14-'16 6MT S4s which, apparently, are pretty difficult to find even when searching the whole nation. In January '18 I happened to find one I liked, '14 35k, jumped on it, flew out to Chicago, and drove it back to Albany, NY.
2014 6MT Prestige, Ibis White.
Sidenote, this car came from Washington and, if you're the previous owner hit me up so I can give you some props for taking such good care of your car.

Nice! I had a pearl white Mazdaspeed 6, and loved it. The look on people's faces when they got smoked by it were priceless. I had a 15 WRX between the MS6 and S4. The Wrex was fun, and handled like nothing I have ever driven. I just got tired and spilling coffee on myself whenever I hit a bump. The S4 is a much better compromise of comfort and performance.

Have only owned one personal driving machine in my life with an automatic and that was a mistake. Thought I was going to tow a boat with it but wound up towing with my wife's car. Of course, the S4 obviously has a manual, which I understand was in the last production run for S4's with manuals (ordered in June '15 and built in August '15).
