Hi guys and gals. I am new to the s6, but not to audi. I have a new to me 2015 s6 and I was taking off the stock airbox, going to replace with ROC euro, and I found there was black OIL in the front most air intake tubing .

Car has ~ 28k miles, I've owned it for ~ 1500 miles. Never looked under the engine cover before but today, I noticed some black gunk seeping around some pipes going into the turbos, I'm guessing the seal for the oil going into the turbos???

Can somebody with more experience please chime in?

Either way, I guess the stock box is going back on and back it goes to the dealer.

First pic - rear intake - clean inside ??? don't have scope to look inside

Front most intake tube - with oil inside

dirty ass air box, wonder if it's ever been cleaned?

Pics of piping going into the turbo, looks like leaking gasket material???

AFAIK the driver's side intake has some crankcase vents that would allow some oil in there so that might be normal.
The crusty black stuff by the oil/coolant lines is not good and there is a TSB you should take the car in for them to fix the seals there. (First I've seen it on a '15 though.)

@gk1 Yes, Im kinda surprised to see it in this MY car. I have been reading and see mostly '13 with those problems. thanks for the info. Also surprised this was not taken care of during the CPO process (just bought the car recently)

I'd be concerned about both your turbo lines that should be replaced by the dealer, since there's a TSB (as mentioned earlier), but I'd also be concerned about your oil separator- would be worth talking to your dealer about that as a source for oil in your turbo inlets- our oils separators /PCV valves for MY2016 and earlier have all been superseded by the RS7 oil separator with the part number ending in the letter 'E'. rather then parts B or D that have been failing in our cars.

Thanks olys6, I will definitely also ask about updated oil separator/ pcv valves. Not happy about seeing oil in there. BTW, any chance you know of the TSB for either of those issues?

I'm afraid I don't, but I believe it's fairly easy to google and to find thru Audi's website- there's a place where you can enter your VIN to be able to find any TSBs or recalls for your specific vehicle. I'm afraid I don't have a link, but I'll post it here if I can find it with a quick search.

Thanks for looking, Im sure my SA will know it. Just nice to have a tsb in hand when discussing it.

but I'd also be concerned about your oil separator
It's just crap man. After passing thru a dust storm, removed the air filter on my 2018 car to clean it, and found the same small pool of oil on the passenger turbo's tubing... with not even 2K miles on the clock. Not happy about it, but was told it's 'normal', so living with it. But my turbo lines look fine, fortunately. I honestly don't think my 2018 car will be any better than the others, so don't plan to keep it over 50K miles. And if I see any other signs of trouble, will probably sell it before the 4-yr warranty expires, which would be around 35K miles or so. Hey, can somebody identify which of those 3 lines is which? And where is the 4th? We need a coolant in, coolant out, oil in, and oil out. I understand the crusty ones are coolant, since oil (at least synthetic) shouldn't do that. But still curious which is the in and which is the out. And where is the 2nd oil line, and if in or out. Thanks.

I'm wondering if some of that stuff on the turbo itself is oil and not just coolant. Coolant leaks are usually white, in my limited experience with coolant leaks. 69845 The bottom arrows in that picture also looks like oil to me.

Also, TSB#2036167/1 and here's the pic of part of it69846

It identifies which lines are which. Outer most lines are coolant feed, the middle of the three is oil feed, and then coolant return.

Oil return line is located underneat the turbo...nicely hidden and (almost) unreachable :).
Hope it doesnt come over as selfish but "glad" to see this coolant seal leaking isnt and 2013 only issue. Kinda majes sense...turbo seal is just a rubber o ring and with temps there getting super hot...i think it is part of "maintenance" and just a mather of time.
For what it is worth...the coolant in abd oil in are super easy to replace (o rings). Coolant out is different story but maybe doable with taking of the charge air cooler lit and boost hoses.
Oil return...ever worse :(.

Makes sense, you would want oil to be fed into the turbo and drained out with gravity helping

Yes and no ;)....as far as i know most turbos fail because there is a lack of pressure (screen blockage/return valve) so would of helped if the turbo kept its oil (but afaik the turbo lines always keep their contence..tought i saw oil while i renewed the oil in o ring).
Anyway :)...

service advisor saw my pics on facebook and said over the phone, as expected it was a coolant leak problem and not to worry. He then tells me my car has already had the fix done in 10/2017 (well it didn't really fix it then did it?) He then asks if I bought my car in 12/2017. I bought my car in 5/2018. Seems like he is confusing my car with a different car? He is still sticking to his story that my car has had the fix done and that he would need to talk to the warranty manager to see if they can authorize a "second" fix. He proceed to explain how the first fix was successful but likely a little coolant leaking is what caused the gunk and is likely sealed now because I don't have any coolant level dropping, nor coolant smell, nor coolant vapor blasting my face when I open the hood.

My take? Lol, screw that. If it has been fixed it it not fix properly. Looks like I will have to go there in person and make a big stink about it
