Roughly 5k into my new S4 (46k miles) and I get smacked with the gearbox malfunction warning. There is no TPMS or CEL. Just a brief warning that goes away shortly & does not pop up during every drive.

Backstory:

The car had some minor hesitation issues when going from stopped to starting. I figured out if I took my foot off the brake the car would eventually ease itself into gear and start rolling. I felt this was a good way to keep as little stress on the trans as possible as i know the 2010/11 dsg’s are incredibly temperamental.

Fast forward to Monday. While pulling into my buildings garage the car slammed forward while my foot was on the brake. Transmission made an awful bang noise. It felt weird and sounded dreadful. I was immediately worried but no warning popped up.

Yesterday I got the warning light. While stopped the car feels noticeably worse when trying to get it to go. Often bangs to a roll, sometimes it doesn’t roll on its own at all.

I got the full powertrain and transmission aftermarket warranty when I purchased the car knowing that the dsg has been plagued. Am I fucked? Will it be covered? Are my symptoms more likely the whole trans or just the mechtronic unit? Any advice would be helpful as I’ve only owned the car for 4 months. I’m taking it to get codes scanned this weekend.

Wanted to add while driving the car does not feel too different as far as I can tell. It’s strictly problematic while stopped and getting to a roll or at very low RPM’s there feels like there’s more drive train slack. Very bouncy/jerky power delivery at 1-2k rpm

Sounds like the mechatronic unit may be having some issues.

Thats how mine felt like before i had to have the mechatronic unit replaced - this was under warranty though, so they didn't try and fix the problem, just changed the whole unit out as it was quicker.

Appreciate the feedback, any issues since replacing? How many miles when it happened & since?
