I have found almost NO information on how to gut the b8 cats. I decided to just buy some tools and go at it. Honestly, it wasn't too hard. If you have any questions about tools needed, or what to do, let me know, I'd be happy to help.

Used a $30 B&D drill. a 3/4" boring bit. (needs to be at least 10 inches long). hammer, and a flat punch. I think some long needle nosed pliers would have helped a lot. Definitely make sure you have your skin covered, and some sort of air filter for breathing.
Honestly I just went at it will the drill. Just keep drilling and shaking the material out. It's surprisingly easy to drill through. After a while, the fiberglass lining will start to come loose. When this happens, I had to pull the pieces of fiberglass out, it would have been easy if i had longer pliers. When this is done, there were a few pieces of catalyst that were too pig to come out, I used the hammer and flat punch to break them up into smaller pieces. Using the flat punch through the o2 bung also really helps for starting to break apart the fiberglass lining, just be careful not to damage the threads. You can pretty easily see if there are any pieces of cat left inside, or if its all gone. After It looked all clear, I rinsed them out with water just to make sure. All in all, probably took an hour for both cats.

What prompted you to gut your cats?

How long did it take to remove the cats? I see it took an hour to gut them but how long was the whole job?

Still have my melted cats in my car. A local shop is charging $875 to swap them.

Hi mate what the cat sound like when cat is gutted? Did you notice any power response gain from that? How long did it take you do that? Is it like an engine out job?

Hi did you just drill a hole on the cat converter from underneath the car, then poke all the stuff inside with needle? So how did you close the hole afterwards, what sound difference did it make? I gutted my Ford before, it starts having this super high pitch exhaust note sound like someone scratches their nail on the car door, not a nice sound, that is my main concern of gutted cat

The cats were outside of the car for this, I don't think it's possible to do inside the car. I'll give you an update on sound once they go in.
