View Full Version : $600 to replace one muffler B8.5 S4?

So I've started to hear a sporadic but consistent with any drive/trip, a weird noise that sounds like a piece of metal tapping the ground and I mentioned this to Audi when I took my B8.5 S4 in for the 80,000 KM service.

Keep in mind, my car is under the CPO extended warranty. Once the service was completed, they called me telling me that there is 'internal damage' in the 'left front muffler' and that it would be $600 to fix the problem and that it is not covered under the warranty.

I left it at that, but now I am quite perplexed as to what this warranty really covers. This was not a wear and tear issue, a muffler should not be going out after 4 years of driving.

At this point I have declined the repair as the car is still drivable, and will probably purchase an aftermarket exhaust, but what recourse can I have with the dealership?

Thanks for the response. You think I should push this through the agent that helped me or through a manager?

Exhaust systems are not covered under CPO, the cat is only part and technically it’s under the new car warranty up to 8yr/80k I think.

Exhaust systems are not covered under CPO, correct. But it's just a muffler piece within that system, and I bought the car CPO under 1 year ago. My impression is that the cars should be thoroughly inspected under their 300 point inspection claim, and an exhaust piece failing after less than 10,000 miles is a little ridiculous. Don't you think?

So sorry to hear that. Depending upon how bad the noise is, I recommend considering waiting until you have enough $ for a full aftermarket exhaust and invest that $600 in it.

Sucks, but I am going through something similar. Baffles in both baby resonators on the downpipes rattling. No coverage. Read the documents - it states exhaust system is excluded :(

For $600 you can get a lightly used catback. Might be worth upgrading if it bothers you that much. Sorry to hear about your case but if it's indicated on the paperwork that exhausts are excluded, you're kind of SOL.

Hell, for $100 you could find a lightly used catback.

Most do the inspection but if it’s falling apart inside there’s not much they can do later for that, if it were making the noise when you got it I’d probably be more annoyed.

Just delete both sides and install an x pipe

You can also get a stock exhaust off this site for $100 or less and only cost $100 to install if you don't do yourself. Pricey but was worth it for after market exhaust IMO.

I agree this is best route, resonated xpipe maganaflow welded in will be about $250 all in, and sounds better than stock

I think model is 11385

I also have baby resonators I can sell you, pm me

I was considering the Magnaflow Touring Cat Back Exhaust. I like how it sounds and the aggressive note.

If I deleted both sides and installed an xpipe, which would you recommend?

I am looking at tdotperformance in Canada since I'm in Vancouver.

Thanks
