Hi,

I've noticed in several US reviews of the new RS5, the button to disable/enable the automatic start/stop function isn't there on the row of buttons under the HVAC controls next to the drive select buttons like it is on the A4/A5 cars. It also seems to be there on European models. Has the start/stop function been removed on the RS5 for North American cars or has the button been moved?

You can see it here when Motor Trend test drove the RS5 in Europe last summer.

But in this photo from the Autoblog.com review which was done in Arizona, the start/stop button is missing.

Hello JohnEnglish,

Very astute observation. I was able to check and verify that the 2018 RS 5 Coupe is not equipped with the Start/Stop energy recuperation system that will shut the engine off at certain times while at idle. Please let me know if you have any follow up questions!

Kind regards,

Hi Vincenzo,

That's interesting, thanks for confirming. Out of curiosity, do you know why they decided to make this change? Is it only for the North American market?

I'll have to perform a little bit of digging for you to see if I can get this question answered. My guess is that it's due to the fact that it's an RS model and you don't necessarily want to cut off the engine during idle for the customer base who would be driving it, but I will circle back when I have more information.
