I have a noise that develops at high speeds in my car. Since tuning and such the 130 limit is gone. After about 140 all the way to 167 or wherever it actually stops it sounds like my windshield screams. Sounds like it is right near the rearview mirror. Has anyone else experienced this? I have C7 A6.

This is strange.. certainly 167mph is part of everyone's daily commute.

I had to test the limits after getting it tuned but I have a place that I regularly do high speed and this noise is super annoying.

It is probably wind noise coming from around the mirror seal, door seal or window seal. Since the factory limits the top speed to 130 mph, they probably did not design those seals to perform much above that speed. I believe I have heard what you are experiencing when I have pushed my A6 above 150.

Yes, most likely wind noise from the side mirror. Fold them in next time and repeat the high speed run

There is a TSB for the mirror noise issue on the early (2014 and earlier) C7s. It was recently mentioned over on AW.

My 2018 starts getting wind noise on the driver's door near the ton (mph). It's at the end of the door, near my left ear, so guess window doesn't seal that good on door frame. It could be caused by the mirror, but shouldn't be the case on this car and at that speed, especially with door frames and double-pane glass. Oh well. Haven't taken it higher than that, but it's already annoying as it is. If noise comes from the rearview mirror, then it'd be a windshield leak. My guess is that car has a replacement windshield. Mine was just cracked, so will have to replace it, and wind leaks is one of my fears.

Yeah I wouldn't imagine they made everything able to withstand that speed, but not is it annoying.

Do you have a link by any chance?

You've done this in a C7 A6? Why will yours go so fast? Mine won't push past 167.

Any more info on this? I have the same issue....90 mph and above, definitely coming from the drivers door/mirror.

I don’t know if it is permissible to link AW on this forum. However, if you go to the AW C7 forum and search for the thread titled “wind noise” you will see the discussion. As of a few minutes ago the thread was still on the first page, and is a couple of threads from the bottom.

Thanks, found it.
Anyway, a tech test drove my car and at 65 MPH verified that there was excessive wind noise coming from the mirror area. There is indeed a TSB for the wind noise. TSB 2039960/1 was performed and the "crevice" in the mirror was sealed with felt tape. On the way home, the car was definitely much quieter and it was pretty windy outside so I'm very happy with the fix.

Sorry I didn't respond before, the APR stage 1 tune takes that governor off.

Misread that. I couldn't remember what the top speed was when I posted but I knew it was around 167. My apologies.

Does anyone here have access to Audi or VW TSBs?
First I recommend everyone to check the gap between their window and door frame, especially by the mirror area. I had excessive gap on the driver side, so reduced it, and I no longer hear loud wind noise up to 140km/h but I do 160km/h and above....I want to perform this TSB myself but I do not know its contents.
Thanks guys!
