So as the title states, the time has come to replace those inner tie rods!

I would rate this a 4/10 in difficulty.

Tools you will need are :

10mm wrench
13mm wrench
16mm wrench
18mm wrench (open ended)
Adjustable wrench
Large pipe wrench

short pry bar
long shank flat head screwdriver
3 lb sledge hammer
Small 1/4" punch
Flashlight

Inner tie rod tool OR DIY tool like I used
large pipe with 4x 3/8 bolts threaded into the pipe on one end

Let's get started

Secure the front of the car on jack stands and remove the wheel(s)

This is what we will be working on. You can see the outer tie rod and boot covering the inner.

52926
You will need to remove the 13mm bolt & 16mm nut & bolt shown above

52927
Next tap a Pry bar or screwdriver into the knuckle to remove pressure on the tie rod.
You may need to work at tapping the tie rod out of the knuckle if its seized.

52928
Don't give up! pheewww it came out easy!

52929
Remove the reusable clamp on the end of the boot

52935
Pry the boot off the tie rod end. I stick a flat head in and rotate it around.
Make sure not to damage the boot if your reusing it like me.

52938
Next we need to remove the dust shield around the boot and tie rod.
Circled is the abs wire that will need to be unclipped from the shield.

52942
Remove the two push plastic pins circled

52943
Remove the 10mm nut and now remove the entire shield..

Now you can remove the one time clamp on the inside of the boot.
A long flat head screw driver makes this very easy, a zip tie can be used on installation.
Now remove the boot
(Sorry no photo for this)

52944
Now you have access to the inner tie rod with the boot off

The next step you will need a inner tie rod tool
Or make one like I did with a large pipe and a few 3/8 bolts

(moderator it now won't let me insert more that 10 photos. how to I finish?)
