It looks absolutely AMAZING!!!!! [drool] But, here is the answer to your question. Yes you can import the car but the real question will be can you drive it on American public roads? The short answer is NO!!! [=(] Why? When the Port Authority looks at the VIN they will see that it is a "german" spec vehicle and was meant to to used in the American market. At this point you have 2 options, you sign the sworn statement that you will never drive this vehicle on Public roads or you have it converted to an American Spec., ie headlights and glass. There maybe more so I would maybe check with the local port authority and they should be able help answer all your questions and help with estimating what the cost would be except for the cost of taxes, title and tags for your lovely automobile. The latter can be found at the local tax collector's office or DMV depending on your state, in this situation SC.
Good Luck and I hope this help or least points you in the right direction.

There’s two ways I know off. One is military. If you are from Europe and you want your personal vehicle here then military will ship it and it’s legal to drive on US roads same way US military can ship their cars to Europe. Second way i have only heard about and not educated my self about but you can ship one here for 6months under a specific rule that allows it to be used as a test vehicle.
Basicly you got almost zero hope of getting it over here.

The only way I'm aware of is waiting until it's 25 years old. :/

I don't know if it's the same situation as Japanese cars but here in NY i see JDM RHD GTR's driving around, i also seen some in Cali as well..
from what i've been told the cars are registered as "show/exhibit" vehicles and they're some rules about mileage.. not sure of the specifics.
where there's a will there's a way.. maybe get with a JDM spec importer and see what's the process and if it's possible to get a car from Germany.

Those are Rotarex GTRs.

Get a salvage a6, and do a vin swap with your 'show car' as 'salvage rebuilt'
i.e. You 'put' all parts from Rs6 to A6....including chasis.....

Because that won't land you in Federal prison lol.

Technically yes, but it would require a lot of paperwork and even more luck. Basically you'd need Audi corporate sign off on it being "substantially similar", then go through emissions testing and tons of other paperwork. You probably don't stand a chance through show and display. A number of E46 M3 CSLs and other euro market cars have made it in through the substantially similar clause. Good luck.

Back in 2006 I bought a 1995 MK3 Golf VR6 4 door Synchro that NGP brought over from Germany. They pulled the front end off of the car and dropped the subframe, suspension, drivetrain out in one lump. Put the "shell" in the rear of a container, filled it with other random euro parts, and rolled the front assembly in last. Car came into Maryland, container scan led to inspection, Customs were told it was a body/shell only being imported for "motorsports purposes". They let it in. I took it to VA, where a friend owns a tow company. He placed a "tow lien" on it with the DMV. They sent a letter telling him the VIN number was invalid. He confirmed the VIN, they then sent a "DMV inspector" to his tow yard to verify the VIN. (DMV Inspector= State trooper) He confirmed the vin was correctly recorded, and filed another form with DMV. (3VWzzz vs us spec WVW222) (or visa versa). DMV then determined it was a "grey market vehicle" and issued a "replacement VIN number". Trooper came back with a title and a new vin tag.He drilled 2 holes and riveted it in the drivers door jam. More paperwork and he "sold" me the car to satisfy his "lien" and BOOM! i have a VA titled euro spec car. VA established this "system" over the years to deal with ROW cars that were often left here by Ex diplomats when they returned to their home country. I also hear PA has a similar system. All said and done, the process took about 2 years to complete. It's for sure possible, but with a car like the RS6 probably not feasible.

Believe Paul Walker did it with an rs4 or rs6 (don't remember). Bottom line you need a lot of money and connections... well they go hand and hand. Once again I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks they are sexy as hell. Aside from them not selling well in the USA which Audi believes, European car enthusiasts don't want to see American's with their beloved RS6 Avants, they are probably upset we even have the RS7's state side. Shame I'd be one of the first at the dealership with money down to purchase one.

Connections and a lot of money can make it happen. Yes, Paul Waker's RS6

anything is possible if you have money. My friend's dad really wanted european s65 amg, it cost him more to ship and convert it rather than buying new s63 here. From what i remember even airbags had to be replaced
