So, in about 5 months, I'm goin go to be a dad! Super excited, and am trying to plan things accordingly. I'm looking at car seats, and was curious what you guys use for infants?

When the child is older, I'm probably going to get the recaro for obvious reasons, but for an infant seat there is no recaro seat with a 5 star rating. What do you guys use?

Graco Aire 3 quick connect travel system. My kids are older, but I’ve been recommending this to patient families. Well rated from a safety standpoint, compatible with the latch system, and crazy convenient to snap the seat right into the stroller without having to wake up the baby. (Forgot to mention that I’m a pediatric critical care doc)

UppaBaby Mesa infant carrier (purchase a separate base for each vehicle for easy one click transfer)
UppaBaby Vista Stroller (Mesa infant carrier compatible)

Congrats! I have 2 kid seats in the back pretty much all the time. Britax clicktight is the way to go. They are by far the easiest to install (and reinstall) and fit really well without having to do anything with towels/foam/etc.

Recaros are not good to be honest. Not nearly as full featured as others and in my experience, a bitch to fit.

You need to think about what stroller you want to use for a few years and then get the associated seats.
Find a stroller that folds up easily for the trunk and flight travel(can usually do carry on with those where they check it at the door for you), smooth rolling over bumps, sturdy enough to endure a few years of bumps, crashes, falls etc.
We went with Britax for the stroller(they have many versions, get the one you like best) and used their infant seat, then bought the toddler seat when our daughter was too big for the infant seat.
The britax 35 infant seat is supposed to be big enough for infants to use up to 35 lbs but our daughter at 20 lbs was pretty snug so do not believe that marketing!
Having a child is the best thing i've ever done and most rewarding by far, but it's also the one of the scariest things you can do.
Good luck.

First off, congratulations! :)

Second, whichever seat you decide on (we prefer Britax in our household), I would highly recommend also grabbing a child seat protector. These will keep the child seat from damaging your car's leather. I picked up the Audi-branded underlay (https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_2017_Q7/Child-seat-underlay---Seat-protector/67794244/4L0019819.html), which works fantastic. They're discontinued, but they can still be found on places like eBay and Amazon now and again.

Congrats, we've got baby #2 on the way, not looking forward to the lack of sleep again, but after that it's great. We started out baby #1 in a Chicco keyfit 30 system, so that we only needed one car seat, and had 3 bases for all our cars. We also had the travel click in stroller, which my wife loved for quick shopping trips, and the normal click in stroller, that turns into a normal stroller when you are done with the infant carrier car seat. After the age of 1 we had to convert to a larger convertible car seat. We ended up getting the Britax Marathon car seats for both of our cars. We love everything about them, but the pull tab and release are in a tough spot when rear facing (probably to keep a toddler from playing with it).

+1 for the keyfit 30. Really easy to use with the bases and works great for the little guy.

congrats! i have an 8 month old and a 3 year old - both the infant (Chicco KeyFit 30) and the toddler (Maxi Cosi Pria 85) fit with no issues. It does make the car very much a super dad-mobile - best part is when the 3 year old says "whoa...that was fast daddy".

Would also highly recommend the TFY See-My-Baby rear car mirror...its velcro versus the majority on the market which are a ball socket type attachment - broke two of those with just normal use and the TFY has never let me down.

Good luck!

First, congratulations!

For an infant seat, we used the Chicco KeyFit 30 and for a toddler seat, we are using the Graco Extend2Fit and love them both. Be aware that they are quite bulky so if you decide to place either seat behind the passenger seat, someone who is tall might have their knees in the dashboard. My wife is 5'4" and has plenty of legroom but my sister who is 6'3" looks uncomfortable.

I too will be having a child in just under 2 month! I already have a seat ( can’t remember which one) and I’m wondering if anyone can speak to the damage car seats cause on the Audi seats. I heard of seat protectors and such, anyone use these or recommend them?

I have Britax Boulevard Click Tight and RECARO Performance SPORT now.
But I had Britax infant car seat prior to these.

+1 for Chicco KeyFit 30. Super easy to setup, and get in and out. As others have said I would also recommend a good seat protector. I went for the Summer-Infant-Elite-DuoMat (https://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Elite-DuoMat-Black/dp/B00368CLXW) and it has worked very well.

When my son was 0-8 months we used the city go with the bases in the car which was easy to pop in and out of and onto the city select stroller. He outgrew it and now we have the Nuna Rava in each of our cars. Really great seat with lots of protection and great build quality. It can grow with him throughout the rear facing time and then it can become forward facing. Can’t say enough about this seat.

Congrats!!!

This is a few years down the line for the new dads, but once I moved onto a booster seat (not convertible), my 6 year old is having a hard time buckling herself. This is due to the bucketed sport seats in the S7 and the the female buckle does not protrude up from the seat much and stays tucked in to remain flush I guess. Anyone else share in this pet peeve and find a solution to this? FYI- using a Clek Oobr seat. Thx

After doing much research, i ended up with the Graco 4Ever: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-4Ever-Convertible-Seat-Matrix/dp/B00Y2863GQ

I didnt want to do the same research every time she didnt fit in the seat anymore so the Graco4Ever was the best option and it will take care of my baby girl until she is like 10yo.

This is what we use for my now 3yo. It fits pretty good in the car, it’s just a little low so he can’t see out the window. We have had it since he was 11 months. Comes apart easy to wash the covers. Transfers to other vehicles easily also.

Not good for infants (as they require a massive Baby Throne).. but when they hit toddler age - I put my boys in this https://www.coscokids.com/highback-2-in-1-booster-car-seat-speckle-bc112dju.html

It does not have a lot of mass, so the kids can get in and out on their own and I don't need to move my front seat forward (I'm tall so it leans back). 5point harness.. but slim design for the slightly cramped back seats in the S7.

Still got 1 in the car for the 4yr old, but the 6yr old is now in a normal booster.

Anyone else share in this pet peeve Same for us with a normal booster.. the female end is buried in the seat, hard to clip for a 6yr old.

We are expecting our first in the next few weeks and this thread confirms we picked right. We added the Graco Aire 3 to our registry and someone purchased it for us which we are really greatfull in advance (shower this Sat) for. Honestly, shopping for these things is overwhelming. There are so many options and seeing what we picked after countless hours of looking and second guessing ourselves get recommended here is somewhat comforting.

Wish us luck!!

Totally agree! I have the UppaBaby Mesa in my S6 and my wife has another one in her Q5. Super quality build and high safety ratings. Very well designed as well. A tad pricey but worth it for my little princess.[:D]

Have used Britax, Chicco, and Diono. All three work as advertised.

For those with boosters that children struggle to buckle, get a seat belt extender. Works like a charm and still positions correctly due to the booster base.
