Looking to upgrade from my A4 Avant (2012) which I have loved and has treated me well. However with a big family (4kids!) looking to upsize cars.
I test drove a new S6 and loved it - but I thought that I was paying for essentially the same car as what had come out in 2013. Also the trade in to purchase price was too great.
Looking at Carmax and also their extended warranties and came upon this car. Actually has a significant amount of miles (59K), but it's a one-owner and I could purchase the extended warranty as well.
Any thoughts on what I should look at? It's a no cost transfer for me to take a look, but I'd like to know of what I should look at?
Thanks in advance!

Looks reasonable enough to check out, although if I were you I'd hold out for one with the sport package rather than the cold weather package, especially living in Tuscon. The sport seats, differential, and exhaust are all worth it.
There are indeed some nice features with the facelift cars (MY16 and later) that may or may not be worth it to you.
If you want to look more closely at this particular car, I'd find out about the motor mounts, the oil separator, and the condition of the brakes. Those are all things that like to break near and around the current mileage point of that car.

59K miles on a 2013 is not a lot of miles for the age of the car, its actually spot on. You can check out www.fd-warranty.com as an alt warranty source, its the same warranty company that is backed by audi. They will give you price quotes from 1 year all the way to 4 years typically w/ different package levels silver to platinum.
I've had my 2013 for 2 years and about 16K miles and havent had 1 issue with it thus far.
Good looking car......and good luck in your search

Fantastic - thanks everyone.
I'm looking and I believe the sport diff was standard in 2013. I don't know about the exhaust. I will perform a PPI and look at the motor mounts, the PCV, and brakes.

Sports Diff was standard on the 2013. Sports exhaust wasn't on the options list until the facelift car came out.
i havent been following the prices of these, but i sold my 2013 back in june 2015 had 36k miles. carmax gave me $42k for it. if you buy this car, definitely buy warranty. i had a lot of problems with mine, thats the reason i sold it. i was tired of having to call tow trucks and being stranded several times. this car is expensive to fix if you have to pay out of pocket.

The older one are not that much different. The 2014-2015 models I think have a bit better MMI maybe, and maybe some more technology? I never looked at anything older than 2014.
I like the carbon fiber trim.
I like the white seats - there are a few different seat color options.
You want the LED headlamps
You want the drivers package with heads up display, adaptive cruise ACC and some other stuff.
Night vision isn't a must, its cool but not all that useful.
B and O stereo may or may not be a must for you.
Sport Diff is NOT in all S6 cars, so if that is something you want, make sure it's got it. That was a must for me.
I think they might have a black optics package.
There are 2 or 3 wheel options. They all look pretty good.
I can't remember if there is a cold weather package for the S6 but assuming so, you'd get the massaging seats and heated steering wheel rather than the nice S sport seats.
When I was looking, I had narrowed it down to either White, or that Royal blue color with carbon / white interior and all the options I wanted. It was actually really hard to find a car that had everything in that combo, but not as hard as finding a Panamera with all the options you want!
I ended up in a Jeep SRT instead of the Audi and now have an RS7. For the RS7 I just wanted an RS7 for under $60,000 and didn't car about what it came with!!!!
You pay a little more for a car at CarMax but believe it or not their warranty is pretty good on higher end expensive imports that you can't get a warranty for from anyone else. Just be sure the check out the car carefully, sometimes they have some slightly beat up stuff even when they are late model.

Thank you - I pulled the records from my Audi SA
1 - Has comfort seats w heated steering wheel
2 - Is prestige
3 - Has night vision and ACC
4 - Does not have B&O
5 - No black optics, and has the cheap aluminum trim
6 - Has sports diff
7 - All TSBs performed
8 - Presale actually had throttle body replaced due to electrical issue
9 - Documentation on service sparse - only did 5 and 15K at Audi
10 - Must have been an SA car, as car sold with 10K miles as "new"
I'm waiting for Carfax to give me an extended estimate and also am querying fdwarranty
I love the avant, but unfortunately a lot of the upgrades (Bilstein PSS, Eurocode complete sway / alukreuz package, BBK, wheels) don't seem like they could transfer over!

Wow - Extended Carmax they are asking for 4489 for $150 deductible up to 5 years and total of 100K miles (ie 40K more). Much higher than what I was expecting. Aargh - what do you guys think?

That's the range I got for a Porsche Panamera Turbo. 5 years is long time, but only 40k more miles? Do they have more like a 36month 20-30k mile warranty. They may be trying to up sell you something that doesn't fit. Meaning the 5 year 100,000 makes sense on a car that only has 20,000 miles. Since you are already way over 50,000 miles that's just not cost effective. That seems high for an S6. I paid $2500 for 36/36000 on my RS7. $5000, is a lot of pocket change for repairs.... Find out what the policy is if you cancel it and how a refund is prorated.

Yes - even though its a 100K warranty, really only a 40K mile warranty. The cheapest option they have is w $500 deductible, 100K (or really +40K), and 5 years. Thinking going this route, as I would have to have a little over 3 warranty visits to justify cost over $150 deductible
Cost is $3299

Well look at it this way, with the audi, if anything does go wrong its going to cost a lot more than the $500. For the little things you're just paying out of pocket, and the warranty is peace of mind for powertrain, and electronic stuff that will use up $3299 in 1 or 2 issues.

Congrats on the S6 - they really are the bargain sleeper of the whole Audi line, and they have the same interior trim and options as all but the special edition RS7/RS6.

Thanks! - Last question(s)
1. Do I have to worry about carbon buildup on these motors - the B8s were notorious for them
2. Anyone run catch cans? or do the PCV tend to be good.

Not quite. You cannot get the black Valcona leather sport seats with silver stitching throughout and alcantara on door inserts and console with any A6 package, and neither the carbon atlas inserts, and all of that make the S6 feel truly special. And I don't personally like Alcantara on any touched surfaces, so the interior of my S6 is the best IMO. To some it looks old, but that's exactly what I lilked about the car, and was glad to snatch one before they switch to the videogame theme, and no V8. It's not only a sleeper (especially with no badges, like I did with mine[:D]), but it has a timeless design IMO, with 'old-school' beautiful full gauges, and the right amount of tech. I really like the intuitive MMI, so I don't care if it's 5 or 20 years old. It works. Well, almost. My AudiConnect crapped out, and can't use it at the moment, but wasn't going to renew the subscription anyway, so will probably keep it like that. What it could have had is a few hundred pounds less, and handle a bit better, but at least it feels solid. Overall very happy with the car playing jack of all trades, now that it has Conti DWS06 tires.

If you want better handling then lower it and add sway bars. You will be amazed at the difference.

With just VCDS, or something else? Is there any need to realign if you lower it 15mm? Read 17 is the limit, so probably better not to hit it, no? And any link to the sways?

VCDS is fine down to 15-17mm or so. No need to recalibrate or realign anything. If you try to go lower with just VCDS, you’ll get errors for your headlights and your suspension (first hand experience). The cete lowering module is excellent. If you can find version 2 in the classifieds, grab it- otherwise wait for a sale. Go to ecstuning.com for sways and links. If you lower your car, you will need the ‘optional’ hardware kit with the end links.

Carmax car fell through so now ordered this carvana car - 2013 S6 Prestige with 62K miles for $35100. Nice color, LED lights, doesn't have night vision.
One owner car serviced at dealership - does this carfax look good to everyone? I think all of their service is timely - anything I need to worry about for upcoming recent service?
