I'm pretty pysched about this. Since I've installed the boost gauge and VAG'd - I've never seen this car request over 10-11 psi. I am going to get the chip upgraded from socketed GIAC to GIAC-X flash at KTR this afternoon.

Best case scenario this fixes the problem, worst case I can rule the chip out of the equation [:D] [a4]

I called PES recently to ask about the X-chip and the guy I spoke with said that that is all they install on the 2001 cars.

Besides, why would anyone want to flash their car with a less powerful program? hehe.[:D]

do you have to have a sport k03 to be able to run an x-chip? If so could you swap in a sport on a pre-2001 car and run the x-chip? Thanks!

Was a major success. Boosting to 14-15 psi where I belong [;)][up]

So are you X-chipped or now running a flash loader?

When I went to them - not the last time but before that, they said my car was fine and no misfires (which I was having a problem with). A few days later, I vag'ed the car, there were misfires. xcdhracer15: How did they mess up your car?

Knowledge of the 1.8T was awful?

That's a pretty bold statement about KTR. Many Audi owners around here (1.8T or 2.7T) have happily taken their car to them for years. They are right up there with Status as far as quality of work.

What was the issue with the k04 chip, did you just get a bad soldering job or wrong program? What made you think that they weren't knowledgable, who were you talking to, one of the techs or front desk personnel?

I am currently X-chipped. My power runs from 2800K - 4000K RPM much smoother. I find myself in 4K much more often/sooner than before hand.

So much for gas economy [rolleyes] [:D]

My experience with KTR was excellent. I don't think they specialize in Audis as closely as Status, but for what I needed (rotors and chipping) they were plenty qualified.

At KTR you get a really nice waiting room to hang out in, and get to look at some premium cars. On the other hand I like Status because you get to see your car getting worked on, and talk to the mechanic and learn a little bit. [wrench]

must be cold as heel up there right now...in the summer you'll boost to about 18psi.
