Hi Guys,
Its been super, super cold here in CT and recently I have noticed my tranny acting a bit out of character. If I bring the car to a complete stop and release the brake, the car would obviously begin to idle forward. Now, however, it remains completely stopped after releasing the brake and after a bit of a delay and a clunk, begins to move forward. If I step on the gas during this time, it seems to bang into gear and begin to move forward. Also experiencing some delay when going from reverse back into drive.
Has anyone else experienced this and have an idea as to what it could be? 2013 S4 with 33k miles.
Thanks in advance.
Brian

It's pretty normal for it to be clunky in cold weather. Once the oil gets up to temp it should go back to normal.

It is, I just wanted to get a feel from you guys to see if it’s typical or if I should get it to the dealership.
CT, I've noticed my '13 doing something very similar here in Cleveland. Although I would not describe the release as a clunk, perhaps a snap. I was thinking that I had a frozen caliper or two... It hasn't happened since the weather 'warmed up'!
Everything seemed a little more harsh when we were down to the single digits!

QS4 thank you ! Prob a snap is a better way to describe lol. It does feel like a caliper isn’t releasing but is definitely a tranny hesitation of some sort. If it keeps up I’ll drop her off at the stealership to be sure all is good.

I have a DSG in my 2012 GTI and it's pretty common for all DSG's to have some pretty unpleasant driving characteristics when they are cold. They will make more noise, shift slower, and clank and clack. Mine dumps the clutch from a stop like a teenager that's never driven stick before. I think all of this might be a big factor in Audi deciding to equip the B9 with a standard auto

It got down to - 27c a few days ago and she wasn't sure to shift up or stay in current gear. Once warmed up, she's back to normal

Cold weather definitely slows up the initial response of mine when putting in reverse at start-up. Hesitates ever so slightly and then catches.
