Hey all,

My S4 is getting up there in miles (~118k) and I've noticed an exhaust rattle over the past 15k or so.

I have done literally no checking of it yet because it's been so cold, so I figured I'd ask here first before getting a friend to help me diagnose. It sounds from inside like it's coming from the front driver side, on deceleration, at approx 2200 RPM. It is quieter if I'm clutch in while it passes that, and I don't really "feel" it in the car, so I don't think it is engine/trans mounts, issue with the motor, etc. No other symptoms at all. It sounds way less like a mechanical rattle, and more like exhaust hangup for lack of a better description.

I'm thinking heat shield issue, or maybe the exhaust manifold is coming loose, or perhaps a hanger/joint in the exhaust somewhere is bad?

Like I said, I plan to listen to it from the outside from a couple of different spots to narrow it down, but I'm a cheap bastard and I refuse to let anyone else touch my car, so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has experienced this. 2012 S4 6MT if it matters.

Thanks in advance!
