2003 S6 transmission issues

Hi my S6 seems to be stuck in 4th or 5th gear.

any ideas what could be wrong with it?

planning to do a 6MT swap anyways but just wondering if its something simple that failed on my transmission.

Likely not anything simple. Have you scanned with vag-com?

You probably lost 1st and 2nd gear. The transmission will automatically switch to 4th if it cant find first or second. Same thing happened in my S6 after it grenaded 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Got the o1e swap done with Audis4parts.com and can not recommend them enough.
