Hi,
I'm hearing an annoying rattle coming from my rear passenger door while driving over bumps. It's not like something has broken off and is rattling around on the bottom. I know these cars are notorious for rattles, but this one just started recently. The other day I had my daughter drive the car while I sat in the back seat so I could isolate where it's coming from. I found that if I open the door while in motion, the rattle stops. I thought that maybe the locking mechanism isn't tight so I put some duct tape on the three sides of the metal piece that is screwed to the door jamb so the locking mechanism would have something wider to hold on to. While it might've helped a little bit, I don't think that's the solution, as the metal piece isn't worn at all. Maybe the mechanism inside the door needs to be replaced? I have it on my service order for when I bring the car in on Friday to have new tires put on, but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
Thank you.

Thank you.Interior rattles are the worst. Wonder if the window motor has worked itself loose. Does it change with window up or down? Wife thinks im crazy for always trying to zero in on the rattles. Speaking of I'm getting a clunka from my rear passenger as well but have a feeling its a suspension/strut tower issue. Let us know what the techs discover, if anything.

Y'know, I thought mine might've been suspension/strut tower related also because if I were to describe where the noise is coming from, I would say behind your right shoulder, as if you're sitting in the rear passenger seat. Then when I sat back there, the noise sounded like it was coming more from the pillar between the rear passenger door window and that smaller triangular window just aft of the door, which led me to open the door while in motion. Once I did that, the noise stopped. What a good idea to test with the window down. I will definitely try that.
Thank you.

I get this too, but I believe its something to do with one of the connectors between the metal frame and interior panel.

Can you elaborate please? Are you talking about something inside the door?
I get a creak from the rear, I pulled both panels of, used some stick on mat material, checked for anything loose. Didn't help.
So maybe it's the door itself or something in the jam or back seat. That and the stupid instrument panel surround drive me crazy.

i had a rattle over bumps and with heavy bass songs on my front passenger door. Ended up being a loose torx screw on the door. i would check those and tighten them.

I had a rattle that matched the exact description of your issue once...it ended up being the puddle light in the bottom of the door. Removed it, reset the bulb in place, and I haven’t had any issues since reinstalling.

I had a rattle coming from the passenger side rear deck. The dealer identified it and fixed the loose speaker in the deck, and the rattle has gone.

Final word on the rear passenger door rattle is, "could not duplicate", and would need more diagnostic time. For whatever reason, he spent time trying to diagnose a noise coming from the front passenger door area, where he applied something called Rubber Care to the door seals, which didn't help. The funny thing is, I didn't mention a noise from that are when I brought it in, nor was I even aware of it.
I still hear the noise with the window open, so I'll try some of the other suggestions.
Thank you all.

You could apply a similar material to the rear door seals, German cars use gummy pheldge , or a similar product. My BMW was notorious for noises in door area. If the dealer is close, you could has service advisor to use the same material they put on front door seals on the rear door seal.
I recently had a squeak/rattle coming from the driver's side rear door fixed, they had to adjust the window regulator and the latch as well, noise is gone now.
Car feels brand new now that there are no rattles/squeaks

Today I re-seated the puddle light, lubed the weather seal around the door with wd40 and loosened/tightened the torx screw at the bottom of the inside door panel. I also squirted some wd40 inside the door latch. Fingers crossed.....[wrench]

Yes. If I fold a napkin and force it between the door panel and door frame to keep some tension there, THAT rattle stops. I have others. Lol

I did this to all four doors. Soooooooo much better. I definitely recommend doing this.
Squirt some wd40 inside the door latch.
Squirt some wd40 on a paper towel and wipe down the weather stripping on both sides. Just grip the weather stripping with the lubricated paper towel as if you're pinching it and go around the whole strip. A lot of black residue should transfer to the paper towel.
Loosen the torx screw at the bottom of each door panel, then re-tighten.
Big difference!
