I just got P0011 Timing Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard.

What does this mean? Car runs just fine. I cleared the code once and a day later it came back up. Could it be a bad sensor? Wouldn't it show as a bad sensor though? I just did my timing belt less than 15,000mi ago.

Could be bad n205, worn adjuster seal rings, or worn adjuster itself.

Check there is no oil coming out of the N205 valve electrical connector. Check you have sufficient oil (and if possible) pressure.

Replace your Fuel Pump Relay (J17) *see below*.

If its not those, whoever did your timing job made a mistake.

Can't find the relay or I did and didn't notice. Looked around and it's supposed to be under the ecu?

So I took the ecu cover off and lifted the ecu out the way and there was 3 relays checked them and they looked fine. And no water damage at all. So I'd say they're good.

Checked oil, it's good.

Oil pressure? Haven't checked that yet but it's most likely good since the car runs just fine.

Timing sensor seems to be perfectly intact from the outside.

So... Any other thoughts? I doubt the timing belt got put on wrong, the car runs perfectly fine.

Getting so frustrated!!

The relay is in the car, drivers side dash panel

The relay is in the car, drivers side dash panelAll I have is 3 relays under the dash by the fues box. And under the hood by the ecu only have 3 relays, no water damage and they looked fine.

(the picture of the relays by the ecu is not mine but looks exactly like that) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/82ee5664ebae79fb4903238317e66c2d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/95fb6d3bffd88d46c1f9bd37182ba127.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171219/20eec5555b452cdc7847a6ded66ebe3d.jpg

Its nothing to do with relays in teh ECU. Take a pic of the relays on your car under the drivers dash

Would an intermittent (rather than full) P0011 pending code indicate one of the mentioned causes mentioned above?

i.e - I've had the pending code but no warning light.

Post #3 explains the most probable causes. You need to learn to be concise and detailed up front so half the process doesn't end up just being information extraction.

How are you getting your codes? Post a full report.

Check battery, check oil level when the oil is at 60oC or above (engine off).

Make sure there is no wiring issues to the N205 (you'll need a multimeter).

Its a series circuit, everything one can need to diagnose is above.

If you're struggling still mate, you'll need to be much more precise.

Engine Code
Transmission Code
Year of model
Pictures of that show the 'whole' unit.

Difficult to determine what is happening in a numbered system when you cannot see all of the options.

In the meantime

check and charge your battery.
