So I've had my car since 2006. I've been the only owner of it and I've made lots of choices and gone through lots of parts and wheels. I've done a pretty good job taking care of it and just wanted to document a few things from start to now. Please feel free to comment/hate/like. I'm pretty thick skinned.

First two things I did was install Eibach springs and get some wheels. I ran these RPM 505's for probably about 7 or 8 years before finally getting some different wheels. Oh, and I tinted the windows.

https://z1fuog-dm2305.files.1drv.com/y4mIZAK6oPNg1Ucl2jm4wAcBh1I3PZ0h0hbuJMFLk16UflHhFM xW1Uy12HWN1sbISOQ_tAjYG9tBwc-sEPNG7pluoYnHu_Ew6X3t0mkv60qLtbZgi0oJPhqIDxFVM2FBL vPgQn6B6WdaxQoBuYKpDumA65OIxmgmiBUDEwbpo_5-1vodUsIUD_IEExqmnMz9-t9zaaNA9uwLqJfkb-hQo3PIg?width=575&height=383&cropmode=none

After moving from Germany to Wyoming I really didn't do much to the car and just kind of neglected it. But then I moved to California and started giving it some love. Bought some new black Rohana 20's and started with a black theme with black grill and some black S4 door blades. Also threw some Relak skirts on.

Eventually got a custom exhaust put on.

With some exterior mods I started focusing on fixing the car and modifying it engine wise. Especially when I decided to go with a JHM tune.

At that point the engine mods were:
Test pipe
JHM upgraded HPFP
Full exhaust
Front mount intercooler
Intake

And with that started a new phase of go fast parts. First I installed water/meth with a kit I put together.

This was a nice addition as it really livened the car up but just wasn't enough.

So after a lot long texts with a good friend and bad influence I found Mitchbartko selling his old kit and purchased it.

His kit came with:

Pag Parts (PPT) manifold
Borg-Warner EFR 7163 turbo
Tial Wastegate
Associated downpipe and fittings

Parts I had:
S3 injectors

So I started ripping out the K-03 and installing the new kit when it arrived!

After the install I scheduled an appointment with a tuner in NorCal and got a very conservative tune done. He never provided me a graph or proof of numbers but he stated that my tune was making about 286 whp at about 7 PSI.

At this point I was out of time and the tuner told me the engine wasn't healthy because he saw some smoke and other things...I probably should have just waited but that's hindsight. I had to ship the car to the UK with me.

In the meantime, I've collected a bunch of parts to build the bottom end to include a spare bottom end. I'll get this done sometime in 2018. Those parts are:

JE Pistons
Forged Rods
Integrated Engineering Crank Bolt
APR main studs and head studs
Southbend Stage 3 Clutch and flywheel
and still to come are Integrated Engineering crank bearings

In the meantime, I just got the car retuned out here in the UK with a company name SA Tuning/ (http://www.satuning.co.uk) which netted pretty amazing results. I have some issues that need working out as you can see in the graph with it being shaky around 4800 - 5500 or so but you can see what the previous tuner and the new tuner out here was able to push on the stock bottom end. He actually said that once I fix the fueling or whatever the problem is to come back and he'll finish things up on the house because he's confident there's some left there to be safely extracted.

https://0ldr0a-dm2305.files.1drv.com/y4mBGnOjuNAIrf4E15KNB1CVyM9JMPT1AabcAfduXdwLAe35T1 w4D2zjsAc5hUclYV-c2glqslY4m3EresrwGSTYQpPHfs9qaXA5qXFr9xgl3GMq3X_Nz KcfxBAj_hJXfWyxftGCp8Q_nmmbLsiiSOFqRmFnkF-uePtOGrwHAGJSWQssxbrkD8dOl9eNgFVlrIQWwawnMPzrfJ8rB 0JCPMsCQ?width=1653&height=2339&cropmode=none

So until I build the bottom end next year I'll just get these things worked out and update the thread as normal and as things come along.

Correct. Itís Mitchbartkoís old setup. I installed late spring/early summer 2017. I just have to fill in the details above.

A little throwback. For those that know Operator his car is on the left naked and afraid before he went insane modding it.

The second pic is at the base of Pikes Peak that Operator and I went on a group drive to the top. If I remember right they made me pull over on the way down after checking the temp on my brakes. Good times.

Finding more pics as I go through my phone.

Installed some B6 Recaros about 2 months ago and the RS4 fuel controller. Really love the seats. If youíre on the fence about it just do it. They feel so much better than the stocks.

I also redid my gray interior to black and wrapped my headliner in suede. Did it myself. Not too bad for my first and only time.

I remember the park rangers on Pikes Pike waving at us on the way up to slow down. We were one of the last groups to go up while there was still an unpaved section. Good times!

Did my cam follower and cam chain tensioner today. Tensioner was broken. Car runs nice and smooth. Loving it.

Also threw in a fake carbon fiber drivers door handle thing where the window switches go.

Received my PRV and an upgraded fuel pressure sensor.

I accidentally dropped the PRV when I was trying to thread it in and t went into the deepest, darkest crevice my engine had. I had to take off the whole intake manifold to get to it. What was supposed to be a 30 minute job took me like 4-5 hours!!! 🤦🏽*♂️

Also installed a small fire extinguisher on the passengers side. Just in case.

I canít believe you were able to stuff 275/30ís with just a fender roll and yet still have that much tire patch in contact with the ground! Very impressive! 👍🏾 Glad you decided to fix it after hearing news about your motor. I too am currently undergoing a lot of mechanical issues with mine ($$$) and battling myself to just fix it and keep it.

Thanks and keep at it man. I had to add some camber to the rear because of the drivers side. It rubs from time to time but Iím gonna take the wheels off in the next month and throw my Rotiforms on after I fix them. In hindsight if I had gone with 265s then I probably could have for the wheel and tires under those fenders much easier. But they fit with some work albeit.

Honestly my mechanic is stumped himself. My car has been at his shop for the past 2 months. What we though to to an easy fix turned out to be pain in the ass. New PCV, new N80, new HPFP and LPFP, new intake camshaft and cam follower, new PCV hose, new AFE dry filter and MAF sensor, new spark plugs, cleaned up injectors and installed new hardware and seals, full carbon clean and man was it bad. Car is loping intermittently. Using the VAGCOM to smoothen the idle out and then shortly after back to loping. When itís not loping the car is driving quicker and harder than ever that is until you come to a stop and itís all back to the loping issue. Another thing thatís odd is everytime the car fires up the plugs immediately foul up and thereís some oil in the combustion chamber. Needless to say the struggle has been real and all I want to do is drive my car and fall back in love with it.

The start up issues have tuner double check the run flap maps been completely changed to 0 values. Iíd say jump up idle too a bit with no run flaps. Will shift things a bit higher to ease on start ups and at stop idle if it seems loping.

VCDS will allow you to raise idle. I believe I was able to jump up to 800 rpm maybe slightly higher. I bet it would help a tiny bit at idle. If the loping remains I would look at the cam adjuster valve to be failing soon.

Thanks for the specs! Thatís ET 25 on all 4 corners? Your also pulled, rolled and repainted? I picked up 18x9Ē ET 20 I think Iíll have to sell em and pick up something different.

Sooooo.....I've had to order a new intake manifold. Got a decent deal on ECS and while I was at ordered a Walbro LPFP from JHM.

I went to my tuner and he discovered I had a significant boost leak on the intake manifold where the throttle body meets the manifold. It was definitely caused by me over torquing when I installed the 145 PRV. The Integrated Engineering spacer I have on there for meth injection comes with some really aggressive screws that were the culprits. The last two times he's spent a significant amount of time fixing minor things and was not really able to maximize the tune so he wasn't able to finalize the tune yesterday, 5 February 2018, as I had planned. Quite a bummer. So this time I've ordered the parts, I'll have him install the fuel pump and the intake manifold, test, and tune it all in one shot. Up to this point I had done all work on my car myself so I guess I can let someone I'm fairly confident knows what they're doing work on it.

So now I sit impatiently waiting for parts to arrive....overnight...from Japan...

I had the same problem because of the screws provided with my spacer. I also got another intake manifold but haven't put it on yet. I think I'll switch my spacer to the iabed industries one that uses stock screws when I swap manifolds. For now I used a helicoil in the plastic to get new threads and tighten the manifold again with standard m6-1.0 bolts. Those vendors selling these spacers that ruin manifolds suck.

Yea I would prefer to use the stock bolts since the threads are less aggressive than the IE ones but I might look into getting slightly longer stock bolts to see if that works.

Please post up if you're able to find the stock m6 with 1.5 pitch about 60mm long. I have been searching and cannot find the stock thread pitch in this size which it seems is why all these vendors supply these bolts that strip our threads and iabed came up with the new install type that uses cut stock bolts to mount the spacer to the manifold and then another set of bolts that mounts the throttle body to the spacer.

The cars been driving me crazy lately chasing vacuum leaks and trying to figure out why Iím getting such bad gas mileage. Iíve done a few things lately that has probably contributed to it. So Iíve replaced some intercooler piping then thereís the intake manifold/throttle body leak that I fixed. I also replaced my nasty cold air filter with a RamAir brand one and sealed up those connections really well. I also took the DV off (Rev C version) and cleaned the oil and gunk off of it. Some of these things have helped raise the boost a little and now it holds better but it is definitely down on power.

Some other notable things Iíve done in the last month or so is change my S3 injectors since one was misfiring. Installed my innovative wide-band which caused me to move my O2 sensors. This might be a primary offender too but Iíll start messing with those in a day or so. I also installed my 145 PRV.

Iíve ordered a new intake manifold (stock but new). The IE and HPA were just too expensive with no real $ per HP benefit. I also have JHMs walbro kit in the mail. Those two things will go in together at the tuners shop and then he will tune it after the install.

I just want to get rid of all the leaks and problems before it makes it to him.

Iíll post back if thereís any changes after swapping things around in case anyone else runs into these problems.

I will say that if you are losing boost somewhere and are down on power I would check your fittings around your cold air intake or ram air intake and also take your DV off and clean it if youíve had it on for a long time. Mine had a lot of oil in it and gunk and that seems to give me 2-4 pounds of boost back that I had lost.

Well in the last few weeks Iíve done a few things but nothing major. Replaced some couplers for intercooler piping and intake. Put in a new intake by RamAir and did a DIY project in my valve cover. I used some high temp epoxy on it to seal the crack at the seams on he inside. Seems to help with getting oil in the intercooler pipes quite a bit. One thing I will say is try to keep the epoxy as thin as possible and avoid putting it anywhere youíre expecting the valve cover gasket to provide a seal. I had to scrape some of it off because the gasket wasnít getting a good seal and started leaking oil that way. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180308/05f8ff62e94f9079efee30ab5b49c64c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180308/a5022ad9aa3316992b16fd1b709874a5.jpg

After all that Iíve dropped my car off with the tuner and theyíve installed my new intake manifold and JHM Walbro LPFP and heíll be finishing the tune today hopefully. They did a smoke test and found the vacuum pump to have a leak so theyíre replacing that. Hope thatís it and Iíll report back once thatís all said and done.

I have a video of the leak that Iíll post up once I figure out a way to do that.

Got the car back today. New intake manifold on almost all the leaks are gone with the exception of one actually coming from the lid of the catch can. Iíll see if I can fix that. Think itís missing the rubber grommet that was there before.

He also finished up the tune since I was able to replace the failing injectors and the upgraded PRV. They werenít able to do the walbro fuel pump so Iíll do that on my own this Sunday hopefully. I know they usually do videos of their dynos so Iím hoping they did one of mine and post it up. If they do Iíll link it up. Hereís the final dyno sheet. The blue is/are with the most current tuning he did. Really smoothed out the graph.

Boost comes on nice and pulls really hard. I think I still have a boost leak even though they didnít find one. Iím gonna change my DV from the rev C to the rev D. Just donít trust that the rev C is holding the boost right. I could be wrong but it doesnít hurt to change it I guess. If thereís nothing wrong with it then Iíll just see if I can sell it.

Still to come. A clutch install and sending the spare bottom off to get honed and balanced. I leave in about a week and a half and will be away from the car for a while so both of those things will have to wait until I return.

Iím not sure I follow what you mean. The epoxy is a JB Weld like material that becomes as hard as if not harder than the plastic itís adhering to. Itís not intended necessarily to hold anything together but fill in the gaps that are forming in the valve cover.

Alternatively and probably a better method would be pry off the plastic that covers the PCV cavities, clean it all off and then reglue or epoxy that section back on ensuring an ďevenĒ bond all the way around.

Donít take my word for it. Take your valve cover off and have a look at it and see what Iím talking about and it might make more sense if my explanation may seem unclear.

Hope that helps.

I donít believe Iím limited by fueling right now. Iíve addressed those bottle necks already and just want to do the LPFP as preventive maintenance right now because I know a lot is being asked of it. This week I did a few things.

Addressed a coolant leak that was coming from the thermostat so I swapped that out.

Changed my oil level sensor.

Swapped my front brakes out for EBC yellow stuff and cut off the brake sensor lines so I could stop getting the sensor warnings.

Finally installed my Walbro LPFP that I purchased from JHM. Take note that Iím FWD and for whatever reason the bracket does not fit the pump right. I had to dremel out a big portion of the bracket to make sure everything fit fine.

Sanded and painted my Rotiform BLQ today. I had one that I curbed over a year ago and Rotiform stopped making it so I couldnít find a replacement hence why I bought the wheels I have on the car now. Came out pretty good in the end. Sanded and painted. Some before and afters. A little color difference but youíd have to be really close to notice and the sun would have to hit just right too.

Put the Rotiforms back on after about a year and some change if not running them due to some curbing I had done. Really love the way these look.

Spent the last few days working on my grill. Did some cutting. Some hacking. Some priming. Some painting. Went to the store and asked them for the ugliest black they had and so they gave me the can below so I could use it on my grill. Just got a few finishing touches I need to do to it but itís coming along. In the meantime the weather is nice so Iíve been riding my bike.

Put my Forge Diverter valve on with the correct spring. Holds boost very well. Also, was finally able to install my new valve cover. I have a few things to figure out. I want to cover up my timing belt but the cover is just flimsy and loose if I leave it on so Iíll find a solution soon. And I need a proper way to seal the extra bung on my intake thatís not being used now.

Could you describe your problem a little more? With the stock valve it operated fine although I did feel like it wasnít holding boost the greatest. That could have been a combination of things though to include the valve cover. With the stock spring in the forge it was leaking boost until I would build up to about 12 pounds and then it all would just slam on. It was a heck of a ride but I donít think it was healthy for the car. I ordered a spring pack and put in a heavier spring and now it feels more responsive and holds really well. I get P0299 codes whenever I really get in the throttle so Iíve been chasing that down but the pedal feel is constant, no flutter that I can think of.

Of note, I didnít order the Forge valve, the original tuner on my car did and I donít think he knew what he was doing. I figured Iím having a hard time selling it so Iím gonna make it work if i can.

Would sound like the dv is pulsing. I donít think I can type the sounds itís making. But only notice it randomly around 8 psi or so, seems to flutter then itís like it closes and holds and then I rebuild boost.

Trying to get a better idea of the other options out there, turbosmart is what Iím leaning to as I know some others experience the p0299 cause of certain DV having small leaks. Then I consider the EFR spring is only $18..... likely try that and go from there.

So when I was home (I'm away from home for a little bit for some work related training) I was messing around with VCDS and managed to get it working long enough to log my boost with one of the 4 springs I have for my Forge Diverter valve. For reference I have this one:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-forge-parts/20t-diverter-valve/fmdvfsitv/ (Forge Diverter Valve)

So this is with a red spring that is supposed to be used on setups of 30psi or more. It didn't work out the way I thought it might. I have since put in a blue spring that is rated for a lower psi setup. I haven't been able to log that spring yet but this is the one I have been able to. Again, this is not the correct spring, however it is not the spring I have installed now either.

I'll log again with the blue spring when I can get it working right (VCDS). I'll also post the excel file here once I can figure out how to do that.

Replaced all the seals in my vacuum pump the other day. Really easy job. Hardest part is reaching the 3 Torx 30 screws on the back. Then you just have 5 Torx 25 bits on the back cover and you have to pop the nipple out using a screw driver in order to change that seal. Very easy. 3 seals in all to change.

Awesome work!!!

I really wish I could get some vids of the noises mine making these days. That golf-R cam I find has really altered the exhaust tones and when flicking it through gears a tiny bit of anti lag pops and snaps really wakes up the neighbours!!

Get some vids I wanna hear yours spoiling up Iím sure if it sounds anything like the 6758 itís just beautiful to hear!!

And post a review of the larger throttle body, I have this waiting to install (metal flap rather then plastic to be more meth friendly) Iím curious how much the EFR will respond to the larger amount of air. Mine will require machine work to intake. But if you say itís noticeable improved bottom end Iíll hack that out this fall.

Welp....I learned something today. Donít buy eBay car parts of you can avoid it. At least things that are not genuine and from China.

I was getting some crazy hesitation and cylinder 3 misfire so I replaced that spark plug and coil pack with some spare used ones I had. The problem persisted in 3rd gear at high boost. Luckily I had brand new plugs and coil packs that I had been holding on to that I was waiting to put in with my new forged bottom end when itís completed. Bought the new parts from fcpeuro. I opted to put them in now and the car puts like a kitten. Gapped the plugs to .044 and everything is dandy. From now on I will not purchase important parts that I need to be brand new from eBay.

Did a little more work today. Installed the new throttle body. Much larger B8.5 throttle body (the opening). Had to order a new coupler and band as well. Should be a few say but these temp ones will do. This install sucked to be honest just because I jumped in to it unprepared for the work. Had to drill out the holes a little to get the screws/bolts to fit. Had to helicoil the intake manifold to get the screws to tighten tight.

Took it out for a moderate drive. Nothing over 40mph. Feels like thereís more low end early on but could just be in my head. Iíll report back after a harder test drive.

I never installed cause I found out stupid late in the install that the IE intake requires machining to fit. It should be a bit of an improvement with the larger for sure. I went with the metal plate rather then the plastic. Which will be more friendly for meth.

I have to also wait for some silicone pieces from IE. Iíll remove intake then and get the machine work done.

You donít get plug blow out with a gap that big? I forgot to regap my plugs when I installed my K04 and the car misfired like crazy at 20 PSI. Set gap to .028 and it ran much better.

I donít think running a .044 gap on a high boost car is really the best for it.

Been collecting parts for the car and chasing a fueling problem (at least I think it is because of my VFIZ readings for my LPFP). I get some fuel cuts at full throttle at the upper range if the RPMs. I have a newish JHM upgraded LPFP installed so I donít think thatís the culprit. But ever since I installed the car doesnít crank as easily so Iím a bit baffled. Iíve changed my HPFP twice, albeit with some used ones that I donít think were very reliable. Finally bit the bullet and ordered a new HPFP. Should arrive in a few days.

Also bought and picked up a ton of parts to convert my car to Quattro. Now I just have to find some time. I am missing a few parts, namely a part to the gas tank. I also donít have an exhaust for the Quattro setup. Iíll probably just have my current exhaust modified to work by a welder I use. I really like the way it sounds now and donít want to risk it sounding like crap with something different.

I need to pick up my block. Itís been ready for a while but when I bring it home I donít have an engine stand to put it up on. Iím ready to begin installing all the forged parts on it but I also want to paint it. Plan is to pick it up on Friday and maybe I can figure out the engine stand piece before then. Iíll post pics when I pic it up.

I also managed to snap off my pinch bolt head while trying to change my upper control arms. Yay for me. I have a replacement pinch bolt, just need to work in getting the seized one out.

Got new hardware to replace my lines for my meth setup. Also had a new tank made. This is quite an expensive way to do this but I can actually take this setup with me to another car in the future if I want. PLUS....less of a chance of any leaks. Once I change everything out Iíll try to sell some of the old parts...which doesnít seem too go well lately.

Found a vacuum line coming off my wastegate that had some rips in it from the heat of the manifold. Hopefully this solves my P0234 overboost code and maybe my P0299 boost leak. Iím not really too worried about the boost leak code but the overboost was driving me crazy for like a month or two now.

Also, I got these little winglets and I donít know whether I like it or not. Iím gonna put them on for now and give it a few days. Let me know what yíall think. A good friend says, ďno, too busyĒ. But Iím trying to give them a chance. Normally I wouldnít care what others think but Iím at a fork right now.

It isnít very busy at all and completes the look you have going on the rest of the bottom of the car.

I finally went and picked up my short block from getting cleaned up and balanced out. I inquired with a shop about putting it together for me but they havenít got back to me yet and I think they may charge an arm and a leg so Iíve been watching videos all day on installing pistons and I think I can handle it. Checking my parts and I donít have main bearings so I had to order some new ones. Bit the bullet and got the high end race Mahle bearings so Iíll have to wait for those to arrive. In the meantime I think I might go to the shop tomorrow and put the pistons together to get things ready but I have to see if I can some assembly lube first. Gonna finally get this thing going and quit talking about it.
