How to remove the stock shift knob from the boot

I searched everywhere online and couldn’t find this info. Everything I found was about changing the knob and boot. I’m not cheap but I got this shift knob I really like. I have a perfectly good boot so why buy a new one.
This literally takes a minute so I took pictures.

Shift knob, retaining ring and boot

Use the hose clamp from changing your shifter and boot.

Tighten the clamp so that it pulls the shift boot prongs together

Lift up on the edge of the retaining ring. If you have to apply pressure your clamp is not tight enough

Back off the clamp remove it and pull the retaining ring off
