Hi please help, I want fit 265 40 19 tyres to the standard 8.5 rim, on rim guard, they say maximum width for 8.5 is 255, if I fit 265 will it have a negative effect on handling?

I still want to stay on 19 inch due to ride comfort and cheaper tyre price. What difference in performance I can get from upgrade from 255 to 265, better grip? Thanks

Technically it can be made to fit, but it is not optimal. The sidewalls will have to be bowed inwards and this will lower your contact patch as a result. 265 needs a 9 or 9.5" wheel for optimal contact patch and performance. An 8.5" wheel is best suited to a 245/255 tire.

It is all a matter of what you can do vs. what you should do. There is no real reason to put a 265 tire on an 8.5 inch wheel. There is nothing to be gained by doing this.

Thanks for your help, I will look for some 9.5 rim, is it worth the upgrade from 255 to 265 tyres? Will I get a lot more better traction cause it's wider?

I assuming you are talking about a 6 series car with an 8.5" wheel in question. I felt that a 255 tire on this car was a little small overall. I run 265/35/20 and feel the car just feels more solidly planted on the road. So, yes, I think a 265 tire is the way to go. My wife's previous B8 S-line A4 had 255 tires.

Hi could you please help, I just bought the s7 with factory 19 inch rim, the tyre worn out, so I decided either go with factory 255 40 19 or go wider 265 40 19, just want more grip

Or you recommend just stick with 255, I be going to stage 1 tune soon, hope the 255 can handle the power just fine. If 265 give more grip I be definitely upgrading
