So my ti car has piano black trim, but the front door pieces need replaced. The passenger side is cracked, and the driver side is actually dark gray and from a b6. So I pulled the pieces and looked up what I needed by part number. Got the driver's side from audi burlingame, and the passenger side off of ebay.

Driver's side from the stealership is not here yet. The ebay piece arrived today. The OEM piece in my car is solid aluminum with a deep black plastic veneer. The piece I received today is solid plastic and, while deep black, does not match the dash piece (or the rest of the trim) perfectly. There is a clear difference between them in natural light; the black is slightly off, and not as deep, and it's really obvious where the door and dash pieces meet.

My OEM piece is stamped NVM Germany and has Audi rings. The piece I received does not have audi rings, and is made by "Novem Eschenbach". The part numbers on both pieces match, tho. I pulled the gray driver door piece and it is also made by Novem Eschenbach, and is also cheap solid plastic. The rest of my car trim is aluminum, however.

Did Audi, at some point after 2008, just start using a different/cheaper supplier for their interior trim? Are there 2 manufacturers for the same part number? Or did I order chinese garbage that was passed off as oem?

I believe there was a trim change between the B6 and B7 platform and it was switched to plastic. Just like the S4 mirror caps that went from aluminum to plastic.
