Hello,

I posted in a different section regarding my car that now needs a new engine. Someone suggested I post in this forum section as well. I'm going to copy the post below and I'll share the link for the thread in case anyone is interested in the additional info.

I'm feeling like the Audi service dept is scamming me.. I'm not sure if they messed something up or maybe because I'm a 25 yr old girl? Back story..

In Nov 2016 I bought a used 2009 A4 from a Mercedes dealership in Denver. It seemed to be consuming a lot of oil so I took it in to the Audi dealership in July this year. They said it needed the timing chain covers sealed because oil was leaking out. Thankfully, the EasyCare warranty I purchased from Mercedes covered the costs minus my $500 deductible. Everything was okay until August 26th I drove the car about 10 minutes from my house to church. When I went back out, the car wouldn't turn on. I had it towed to Audi and they said it needed the cylinder head valves and timing components replaced. This came to $5700. With lots of work, Easycare covered it again minus my $500 deductible. A week and a half ago they called and said my car was fixed and I could come pick it up. I got the car right around the corner (maybe 2 minutes) and the screen started flashing and beeping saying to turn off the engine and check the oil level. The computer showed the oil level as half way. It kept doing that alert about 5 more times back to back. I was on the phone with the dealership at this point and then the screen started flashing and beeping again saying not to exceed 4000 RPM. I was traveling at about 20 mph. They had me take it right back to them. Today they notified me that my car needed a new engine. Something about a balance shaft and bearings. Problem being, the warranty company would only pay total the amount that the car is worth, which they calculated at $8650. Easy care has already spent $6000 on the car so they'll only spend another $2600 and in addition to the new engine (which costs $9000), the warranty company would also require the engine to be torn down to find the point of failure so an adjuster can verify. That would be $2500. Obviously, spending $9000 on a car that isn't worth $9000 is crazy.. But i just bought the car and still owe $12000 on the car.. I don't know much about cars so I can't really tell if something is wrong with all of this. It feels fishy to me. They just got paid for $5700 worth of work that all was for nothing because now they have to throw it all out and put a new engine in it.

If anyone has any insight or advice.. please help me.. I'd appreciate it so much..

Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out and making Audi of America aware of the current repair situation with your vehicle. Of course unexpected engine trouble on a newly purchased vehicle can be some of the most disheartening news imaginable. Audi absolutely wants to look into this further for you and determine if we are able to find the root cause of the issue and see if there are any options available. I will be sending over a PM requesting additional information shortly.

Vicenzo has sent me a message, which I've replied to. Hopefully he can help. I'll keep this forum updated in case anyone is wondering how this plays out.

Just to update this, the lack of AoA concern is disheartening. This is just one example of how Audi has earned a bad reputation over the years. It isn't as if you can not do anything about the situatuon, it is that you choose not to do anything about it.

What seems suitable and just to you is far from the case. People don't have the same means (money) as other's, and it is lack of ethics that is the issue. The lack of morals extends further, and it is things like this that make many sway from Audi. You guys worked hard to build your credibility up, and seem to want to throw it away so easily at the same time. At this rate (ie current lawsuit for violating anti-trust laws since the 90s, diesel fuel scandal, etc), VAG is basically discrediting themselves left and righr, with things like this to show how much you guys really don't care.

This sounds horrible. I am having issues with my dealership as well. Unfortunatley, I seem to be able to receive better communication from Audi USA than the dealership, who just seems to want to put me off. Hopefully involving Audi USA in your case will help speed up the process.
