Audi connect customer service couldnt be any cooler. They took care of me with info that the dealership had no clue about. If u have an old mmi 2g and want to upgrade to 3g watch this before u pay a dime.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I am glad to hear that you have been able to receive 3G connectivity in your vehicle with no out of pocket expense. You are also correct, customers in affected markets may still have the opportunity to have their hardware upgraded ONLY while supplies last. If you have any questions on the process give your local dealership a call!

I think he means upgrading the AudiConnect connectivity from 2G to 3G for faster data connection speeds, not updating the 2nd Generation MMI to the 3rd Generation MMI.

Hello everyone,

The T-mobile Turndown that we are referencing here affected only certain MY 12 & 13 Audi connect equipped vehicles, making only 2G data speeds possible while driving in specific affected areas. The program officially ended on July 10, 2017 so it is very unlikely that parts still exist. However, it is still recommended to speak with your local dealership to see if they have any remaining parts and to schedule an appointment. Please let me know if you have questions.

Do u have any idea what the cost are if they have one ?
And I’m not sure now if I really have the 2g how can you tell if I have the 3g??

To determine the cost and availability we advise consulting with your local dealership. I would require your VIN to determine if you were specifically affected by the connectivity issues, feel free to send me a PM at any point in time.

I visited my local dealership twice last year regarding this issue and have been turned away! I bought my 2013 S4 in May of 2016, activated my T-Mobile SIM card and added Sirius and Audi Connect plans. When I noticed 2G on the dash after T-Mobile did their thing I researched and identified the issue! I was surprised that I was denied the upgrade because all the things that were needed to qualify for the upgrade were in place for me. The first time I was denied they told me that it was because I was did not have an active Audi Connect account but that wasn't true. Ultimately I was told it was because I was not the original owner of the vehicle! I regrouped to find that other non-original owners did get upgrades and some did not! I returned to the same dealership to try again and the second time I was told that my car "does not qualify/is not eligible for the upgrade! Both visits were before July 2017.
Un frickin believable!!

I have stopped trying to connect to my S4's WiFi because 2g is worthless! I wrote a letter to AoA, never sent it... This is my 4th Audi, but it is my first used one! Should I include the 3 other Audis that friends of mine bought after seeing mine?

AoA should know how many vehicles were made that would need the upgrade and teaming with Audi Connect they could see the active subscriptions. Audi and T-Mobile should also 'know' roughly how many of these replacement units were needed... It is quite frustrating not being able to use features OR get them fixed!!

You'd need to speak with your Audi dealer, I believe that they may be available but supplies may be limited as the program has ended.

Vincenzo,

I realize that I am late to the game, but are there any listings for the required parts needed to perform this upgrade DIY? Module numbers and such?

These cars are starting to hit the yards and it would be good to know what to look for since the program is long over! I recently acquired a B8.5 A5 and love it and would like to get the most out of her that I can without ditching the OEM equipment.

Thanks for any information that you or AoA might be able to source!

Regrettably, Vincenzo is no longer with Audi and I do not think he is active here.

B8.5 MY14+ should have the correct 3G modems (see my thread on the topic HERE (https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/774362-2014-A4Q-w-MMI-3G-AT-amp-T-3G-and-Audi-Connect-Yes-!)). If your A5 is MY13, replacing the main unit in the dash with one that has the updated 3G modem is the best route. Someone here tried to swap out the modem module in his '13 Allroad, but had trouble getting the correct software drivers to make the "new" modem work (I don't recall if he succeeded). The real problem, though, for this tech is described HERE (https://www.audiusa.com/us/web/en/innovation/audi-connect/3g-downturn-faq.html). AT&T's 3G network is expected to be turned off by Q1 2022.
