do you guys know anything about the 5 cylinder engine that GM puts in the Colorado?
Im trying to get my dad to buy that in replacement for our Odyssey (we dont need that much passenger room anymore)
He needs a car that can carry 5 people, gets at least 24mpg and can carry shit around from home depot and stuff
full-size trucks are not what we are looking for.

its a fairly new engine, i guess the only thing you could do is search a car enthusiest site and ask around. Look for reviews. You wont know much about longevity till years from now.

isn't that also the engine where half of cylinders can be turned off? like in BMW 7-series?

Chrysler has that engine technology as well. That truck has not gotten the best reviews.

yeah, the 300c's Hemi can shut off 4 cylinders
th e corvette also has similar technology
but so far as that goes, if an engine shuts off 2 or 4 cylinders, doesnt that make for 2 or 4 cylinders/pistons/plugs/rods that'll be more worn/used than the other 2 or 4? how do the engineers compensate for that?

You think that fuel acts as a lubricant?

I'd imagine that all cylinders would still get similar ware even though there's no fuel going to the ones that are shut off.
