Does anyone know whether there is any way to remove the requirement to depress the brake pedal before using the Push Start/Stop button on a B8.5 S4 DSG Auto? It drives me nuts that I have to sit in the car before starting it.

Don't know about disabling it all together, but you could just reach down and press it with your hand while you start it if you don't want to sit in it. I do it all the time after work when I want to run the A/C for a few before leaving

I doubt that it is possible especially for Audi. Back in 80s or 90s(I don't remember exactly when) there were numerous reports of Audis (1000 and 5000 models) having unintended acceleration and were blamed to be defective and causing injuries and damage to cars and individuals. As a result, Audi sales dropped drastically. It was later found to be driver error, perhaps as a result of having the gas and brake pedals to close to each other whereby people thought they were stepping on the brake and actually stepping on the gas pedal. The resulting investigations exonerated Audi but not in the public eye. As a result, it was made mandatory in all US cars that the brake pedal had to be applied before you could turn on the ignition and the, thus preventing people from starting the car with their foot on the gas pedal. Secondly, because Audi could not sell their cars, they came up with the "3 yr test drive" . A 3 yr lease where everything other than tires was covered. This is where all the free maintenance that Audi USED TO HAVE with their leases and that BMW now came from.

Yeah, I remember seeing a"60 minutes" segment on that. That was a big controversy back then, people were blaming Audi for driving through the back of their garages, and claimed the harder they stepped on the brake, the higher the car revved up. [eek]

I appreciate everyone's feedback and the suggestion re: pressing it with my hand. Although bypassing the requirement may not be possible, I can start my B7 A4 Tip, which was manufactured well after the "unintended acceleration" scandal, without pressing the brake pedal.
