Even before I got my Audi (which is now long gone) 2 years ago, I wanted a Dodge Cummins pickup. Well, I will pick mine up on Saturday!! Its a 2005 with 17,400 mi. I got it with the quad cab, auto trans, and short bed. Stock numbers are 325 Hp, and 610 torque! I will be keeping it stock because my goal for the truck is longevity and fuel mileage. Now I know I will not get above 25 mpg, but 19-22 on the highway is realistic. Those numbers are not obtainable with a gasser truck. I got the truck to haul my twins around, haul the jeep around and have the ability to haul a camper around once we get one. Ill post pics when I pick it up!

what is the redline at? 4.5k?
and is it a five speed or four speed?
Congrats. on the truck. You will love it. I've had mine for about 2 years (3500, quadcab, flatbed).
I'd look into the edge box for sure. I haven't gotten one yet, but it should improve milage quite a bit. With the new Cummins (04.5-up dodges) milage has suffered quite a bit to meet the new EPA requirements.
It's a 4 speed. The 48re tranny in it is pretty nice (was always the weakness of the previous trucks)
Check out www.dieselram.com for lots of info and some good knowledgable people.

Daft and Rob- No boxes for me. They are notorious for killing auto trannies.
Rob- I go to dieseltruckresource.com. Lots of members and good tech info.
Almaster- I believe redline is 4K. Tach only goes to 5K. Yup, 4 speed with overdrive.

They make it in a 6 speed manual. Yeah, don't mod that thing too much w/ a 48RE in it, unless you get a switch that cuts down boost until you get going at higher speeds.

I picked it up this morning!!
almaster- I averaged 18.8 mpg on my ride home! 22 mpg would be unloaded with 90% highway. They used to offer a 5 speed manual tranny. Now, they only offer the 6 spd. manual tranny and the 4 spd. auto.
Whats the ratio of first/second gear in your auto?

Not sure on the 1st/2nd ratio. And the RPMs end the red numbers at 3200.
I friggin love this thing! Went to Wally World today and picked up a climber tree stand for $44 and didnt even have to worry about packin it into the vehicle. Just put it in the bed and off I went!

The diesel jetboat FRC I used to coxswain offshore used to have a 300 bhp cummins diesel engine plonked in it. Was a wicked little machine. Norsafe one...

19 mpgs is definetly not bad considering the size of that thing

Probably almost the same engine. The Cummins b-series is everywhere, and originally designed as a marine engine.
We also have them in our bus fleet.

so does the cummins have turbo(s)?
and is it fuel injected or carbureted?

The Cummins in Dodge trucks is a trubo.
Direct injection. The engines in the 3rd gen trucks (03-up) uses a bosch injection common rail system

dieseltruckresource.com is a good site. Lots of info there.
I've put off getting a box for a while, but will likely be getting one this spring (I'm about out of warranty). A heavy right foot kills trannys, if you drive sainly the 48re will hold up no problem to an edge box. And you can keep it turned down to 1. I would really only consider one for mpg gians, not performance. I believe it eliminates the catylizing cycle on the 04.5's up, and keeps a lot of fuel from going out the exhaust without producing any power, but in addition helps use the fuel more efficiently. Plus a blown tranny is a good excuse to step it up to a DTT tranny or simmilar and have a real slush box in there. It is your truck though. I can certainly respect a desire to keep it stock.
Do you have 4.10's or 3.73 grears? 4x4? Color and trim?

That's quite the truck. My buddies family has an extended cab, extended box from a few years ago, the truck is massive but fun to drive. The crap they pull with it is incredible.

<<< this guy dislikes huge automitives.
^^ But if they are needed, not wanted it kinda makes sense. Would you agree?

Exactly, I hate those that buy big automobiles that have no need for them. My friend has a cattle farm so he pulls huge trailers full of cattle, kinda need a truck like that to get the job done

to think he sold his 'vette to buy that thing.
but whatever, hes got $$ (TT 500ci Shelby Cobra, 600whp Mustang Cobra, M5...)
