Hello ziners,i just bought this 1998 A4 Avant 2.8 5-Speed..i got it for arround 1500$us..the retro shape is amazing [drool]and it will be for a 1.8T with a EFR6758 E/W build , i used to have a F21 Build on a B6 but i wanted a bit more and something unique since there is not really Avant's B5 in Canada so i decided to go that way with this mint car for an 1998...
This was my previous build:

Im still sandblasting the front knuckles and waiting for new wheel bearing as well wheel hubs and front control arm kit from FCP,since budget is going low real quick i will wait a bit before making the complete 1.8T swap aswell get coilovers and all new fresh parts.
I have a small question concerning the ECU,i would like to keep the inside stock(everything is functionnal i am pretty impresed) remove rear seats and have OMP bucket seats in the front and a roll cage, since im running and 2.8 will i need to use an b5 1.8t or b6 1.8t ecu?[confused]( i have an 06A block and AEB head) im kinda wondering for that.will it be better to take of the pistons and rods from my block and put it into an 058 block ?

Follow me on IG i post more there also : roadsmasher
Quick question for rear wheel hubs not bearing, are the hubs the same front and rear ? because the rear are at like 300$ each and if done some search and apparently u can use front hubs aswell i just want to be sure before purchasing thks in advance

To answer your question about the ECU, it would depend on what engine you swap in. If you were to swap in an AMB from a B6 then it would be easier to use the ECU that goes with that engine. But B6's have immobilizers, so it'd be a pain. You'd be better off using a B5 ECU.

05-30-2017, 09:12 AM
Thks for the reply mate, yea that i was thinking im better just to get an 058 block and put all my upgrades into it and send it to a shop.lets say i get an 1.8t ecu i will just need to get most of the engine wires and that is pretty it,lets say the donor ecu didnt have few options(ex:sunroof)i had i guess they have the plugs on the ecu so i can plug them?
Thks again

You can not run a B6 ECU in a B5. Then at that point, you need the correct ECU number for your current project. Not fluent on the 2.8, so does your year have a DBW or DBC application?

yea i realized that, how can i know if DBW or DBC ? i pluged my eurodyne device it reads this for , KWP2000 ,,, controller part number : 4D0907551AH , Software number : 1037358107 and hardware number : 0261204346 as of ecu type it says unknown.

I wont get too deep into it, but your best option will be running an 018 CH ecu from an 01. This will require you to make many changes within the car. But in the end, you'll be happy you have that ecu to tune with.

There's supposed to a flexible section of brake line on the rear lower control arm. Looks like you have a single run of hard line only... flexible section goes where I drew in red.

Wouldn't want the brake line to rupture all of a sudden because of the movement of the suspension...

CT5152 triplex on stock displacement (AWM block, AEB pistons, Brute rods, otherwise stock block), 25psi on 93 octane (Maestro Suite), supporting mods. Picked up parts for an e85 conversion, Piper Cams should be in soon, and kind of building a head on the side. Plan to get 400-450whp on this same setup. Just upgraded to a tubular manifold few weeks back. Lots of other stuff to do on this car first.

The 5152 of comp is equivalent to gt30's or more gt35 series?

No. Just play with ignition timing with Maestro. I picked up upgraded exhaust valves, Piper Cams, extrude honed IM, and cylinder head being cnc ported by a friend. Finances are rough right now, so the car on a whole basically took a back seat. It is a 530hp turbo.

Damn will be one hell of setup,i feel ya,if only money wasnt a issue..i also count getting some exhaust inconel valves and some intake valves for the aeb head..btw u running v-band intet or t3 and external or internal also how is the spool compared to the 6758 BB.
Ull need to give me some tips on tuning advice with maestro i need to know more once i will be there,u do street tunes or?

I don't know how to tune. A forum member does it for me. Ha!

As for the EFR, there really is no beating their spool time. That may be the very next benchmark when it comes to turbochargers, while billet compressor wheels with more fin blades is the current. When money permits, I want to try one of these ebay gtx series turbos out. Person told me that China finally got it right after copying so many. Roughly $600 gamble worth taking. Persin said that is why so many people run ebay turbos today with no issue. Back in the days...lucky if those turbos last a couple months.

ohh shiet lucky you,he like comes to you or you send him a log file and he does adjustements?
Well thanks for refering me the EFR back then i had no idea of what it was but did some searches and wont regret i guess.
True,i agree if they can build some quality stuff now why not,600$ is not that much..

Dan in this section remote tunes my car. Used to be the in house tuner for RAI. There are a few on this forum board who tunes, including Biche and rockersteady to name a few. Not lucky, you just need to know who to contact. NotoriousVR6 in the B5 S4 section also tunes.

I always thought ss valves were kinda a waste of money. Buy an egt gauge, cool it how it should be, meth?
Anyways who cares of that opinion.

That's one beautiful turbo!.

Don't shoot for 3xx. Don't buy parts for 3xx. Shoot for 450-500. Buy parts for 600. And have 400-450. It'll save a ton of money. I did the same 300 to 400 to 500gave or take hop and thousands were added pointlessly. Tune it yourself with maestro it's a breeze. just dont over rev. enrichen. and lose power from low timing. Once you got a grasp increase. I'm jealous now.. I'm having to use tunerpro and holy nut's table names, valves randomly placed on graphs.. it blows.

Oh and eff me7. It's probably gonna add power and you'll have no lift shift and anti lag, but 99.5 if dbc or older with me3/5 is what I would do a million times again. And always stick with 2.8 trannies. 1.8 3rd is shit and sooner or later you'll be in my boat and mike hoods too.

Yea 500at the wheels will be nice but i doubt reaching that on 94 octane on this turbo only if i run meth witch i dont really want for now but can be an option if im not satisfied..all the parts that i want are the top ones thats why the engine swap will start maybe arround next summer i need to start getting tubular mani, arp goodies, gauges, intercooler and a clutch to. As of the tranny that was exactly my intention just change all the support of drivetrain witch is fk*n essential

Depends. Dan does not charge me. Biche and rockersteady do it for profession, I think. Rockersteady is in Australia and Biche is in the UK. Not sure where NotoriousVR6 is. It's really up to you. Those who do it for a living will take your business offer, while someone like Dan will have to make room out of his schedule (if he even has time).

Your front rotors are on the wrong sides. The slots are supposed to carve into the pad.

Not sure [confused]. Chalk it up to pure procrastination. I did drop therm the calipers to get rebuilt and painted few weeks, back though...like three years later. When my A8/TT setup was done, I picked up new blanks and pads vs placing on my ST40s. That is how bad it is. Got a whole bunch of other crap like extrude honed IM, e85 fuel setup (034 rail, fuelab fpr, walbro 450, fuel lines, etc), solid exhaust valves, Piper Cams that you just reminded me of getting back to on shipping (I trust him, so not a big deal), AG side skirts, etc. They get accomplished though, little by little. Also have a spare block laying around with an FSI crank. I would say I tend to hoard sh*t.

You can shift into each gear with the clutch pedal both engaged and disengaged? Check your slave and master cylinder first.

10-16-2017, 05:37 PM
Yea i can shift..found the problem on front passenger cv shaft was out of the of the outer side witch wasnt turning the wheel but only the axle.
Is it possible that when this happens the passenger rear dosent turn at all but no axle broken?
I found this out today now i got more hope lol
