Hey guys I'm a new RS7 owner. Picked up a second hand RS7 recently and have been loving it so far.

I picked up the car from a dealer but I had a few questions that maybe you guys could help answer. Is there any way to know if the car has a tune already? I haven't compared any other RS7's so I have no idea what a stock one sounds or feels like. Do these cars all sound really aggressive on startup? Pops and growls? Pops when downshifting?

Getting ready to go APR stage 1 but wanted to make sure there wasn't already a tune in place. Figure the dealer would've caught it. Thanks for any insight

If it has an APR tune already you would be able to tell from cruise control stock functions, or you can call APR and give them your car info and they can check the database.

These cars in "S" mode crackle and pop some normally with the sport exhaust. You can check under the hood for possible downpipe modifications or check exhaust run to see if it's stock or aftermarket. If there is evidence of other mods, the chances of a tune are likely higher.

As IoawRS7 says, use the cruise-control stalk to determine if it's APR. IIRC:
1. turn the ignition on but do not start the engine
2. hold the cruise-control stalk's on button for 10 seconds or so
3. if you get a (I think) CEL blinking in the display, then release and hold again--it the same light blinks one more time for each additional push, then you're advancing the tune to higher-octanes and you have an APR (or UX copy-cat) tune
4. if this does happen, make sure you set it back to a single blink to ensure you've not set the tune for octane levels higher than the fuel in your tank

As limey said above, but this may clarify, it's directly from their PDF. This will let you know if there is a tune, but it wont tell you what exactly each program is. For example program 3 may be 100 octane or they may have it set as valet etc.

Procedure to Swap Program Modes
1. Locate your EMCS configuration on the back of this manual. (ignore, you don't have)
2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. (for DirectPort Programmed cars, the engine MUST be off)
3. Be sure that your EMCS features are in the UNLOCKED state (if equipped with the security feature). Unlock the security feature if necessary. Remember
that you will not be able to unlock the security feature if the engine is running. (Assume you're in unlocked state)
4. Make sure the car is not in motion.
5. Make sure the cruise control is in the on position.
6. Hold down the cruise control SET button to select the appropriate engine program. After five seconds, the check engine light will begin blinking once per
second. This will continue for five seconds. Next, the check engine light will begin blinking two times per second for five seconds. This pattern will continue
with three blinks (depending on the number of programs that are configured) and will end with four blinks per second. The number of blinks per second cor
responds to the program number on the back of this manual: ((You don't have this so you don't know what is what)
Program 1 = 1 blink per second
Program 2 = 2 blinks per second
Program 3 = 3 blinks per second*
Program 4 = 4 blinks per second*
(* if equipped)
7. Release the cruise control SET button when the indicated blinks per second corresponds with the program that you wish to run. Example: To run the program
in slot 2, hold down the cruise control SET button until the check engine light blinks twice per second and then release the SET button. You will now be running program number 2.
8.(DirectPort Programmed Cars only) After changing programs, turn the ignition key to the OFF position for a minimum of 10 seconds. Turn the ignition
to the ON position and wait until the check engine and EPC lights illuminate on the dash before starting the engine.
FAILURE TO DO THIS, ESPECIALLY ON AUTOMATIC CARS, WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN A FAULT CODE AND POOR PERFORMANCE. FOR NORMALLY ASPIRATED CARS,
YOU MUST CYCLE THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON A SECOND TIME IN ORDER TO CORRECTLY CHANGE PROGRAMS. (On ME9 (2.0T, FSI, etc) cars, the check engine light and EPC light will flash back and forth.)
9. (DirectPort Programmed Cars only) After the check engine light stays on solid from the above step, cycle the ignition key off and back on one more time before attempting to start the car.
Note: If your EMCS system is equipped with two programs, then you will never see 3 blinks or 4 blinks per second. The pattern will end with two blinks per second.
Similarly, if your EMCS system is equipped with 3 programs, you will never see 4 blinks per second. Remember: If your EMCS system is equipped with special software for
particular hardware and/or fuel DO NOT attempt to run those programs without the correct matching hardware and/or fuel. This could result in serious damage to your car.

Thanks for the info guys. Tried it a few times and doesn't seem to have a tune. Might have to take advantage of the APR sale now!
