Hi there, just new on this forum and searched anywhere in forums to get rid of an anoying drone from my exhaust system.
My car is a 3.0 TFSI Avant.
I made a history of what modifications i have done to my exhaust system.
The 2-room mufflers i bought are from NAP Germany.
Now i have a very nice sound at high RPM when shifting gears, the exhaust pops.
The company that sold me the 2-room mufflers told me the only way to get rid of the drone is to remove the X-pipe and replace it with an sport mid muffler but i don't want to lose the exhaust popping ;)
My idea was to install 2 small cherrybombs after the X-pipe.
Hope someone can advise. Thanks!

Look into a resonated x pipe. I can not guarantee that it won't eliminate your "pops"
I have a non resonated x pipe, it gets raspy at times; not often enough for me to change to a resonated version but maybe next year.

Thanks Sponge, my X-pipe now is also non resonated, do you think i loose a lot of fun when a stainless sport mid muffler gets installed?

I have the same issue.
Front two small resonators delete
Plus suitcase delete with non res Xpipe
Also added 2 magnaflow race mufflers.
Sounds great but drones right around 2000 rpm when shifting.
Any suggestions would be great

Have you been to your local Audi dealer ask them to Recalibarte the ANC......If you have B&O this can be done not sure about the Bose system

If anyone knows if is could be done with the Bose sound system, please confirm. I have a slight drone with my Milltek non-resonated exhaust. I don't do much highway driving so it's generally not an issue but if there is a simple solution to it I would ask my dealer to adjust the noise cancellation setup.

Google "Synapse no drone". I installed them on my previous setup and they worked. Try to get the longest length you can fit as close to the engine as possible, maybe where your x-pipe is located. Good luck.

Drone is only present sometimes. In "D" no real drone, I can have my radio off and no drone. In "S" I get more drone as the rpm seats higher while cruising. I usually have the car in "D" until I'm trying to beat the clock. Arrival time on the GPS.

A different brand of rear mufflers may also help. My Borla ProXS mufflers don't drone. They may be the quietest straight through mufflers you can buy.

im having to do a FIRST just to get my APG DPs in on my 2017 RS7. smh. apparently the Akropovic Ti doesnt line up like the stainless do...will be pulling the front set of resonators off and moving the Cats from the DPs forward and then using Vbands for easy removal and swap back to stock...what a headache compared to the simple swap on the OEM SS exhaust....hoping it will sound alright. initially they wanted to replace the mid section of my Ti exhaust with a custom SS mid piece with X pipe and resonators, but i said NO THANX! an addition 1300 later and i have the solution. :(

Last monday went back to the exhaust dealer, they removed the x-pipe and replaced it with a sport mid muffler, drone is still there.. a bit less but now the raspy sound is gone :(

Reinstall x-pipe again? After mid muffler?
I am thinking to fill up the space between the stainless rear mufflers with glass wool. Maybe this will help

I am under the impression that the drone is from the removal of baby resonators on the downpipes.
I have the same mufflers and they are far from quiet. I also have no baby resonators and no mid muffler. Unresonated x pipe located where the mid muffler (resonator) went. Along with mandrel bent 2.5 piping.
So if you only replaced your stock mufflers then I can find truth to your statement.
I have to make an updated video to get a sound clip.

Just did this and still have drone.
I added 2 12" long pipes right where the 2 small resonators were .

Hmm... when Nsantos did it he installed them before the rear muffler. I wonder in our case this is where you need to install them. Also there was someone else that reported putting in exhaust cut-outs before the rear muffler also mostly eliminated drone... So I think that may be the key- Drone may be mostly due to the selection of the rear mufflers.

My understanding is there's quite a bit of science to making a helmholtz function correctly. To eliminate specific sound ranges, different size dead pipes of different lengths are required. The straight pipes on my 911TT used this but the dead pipes need to be almost as long as the exhaust itself so they were made into back to back "S" pipes to shorten the overall length, worked perfectly to eliminated drone in the worlds louded exhaust though. When googling I see that many Helmholtz designs seem to use a bigger canister design on them now, which I imagine helps to reduce the length required or maybe just gives you a wider rpm range, not sure.

I have some drone on load (slight up hill) around 2500rpm. Deleted all 3 resonators. Resonated magnaflow xpipe replaced the 2 small ones and i have the sports exhaust. Facelift s7. Would love a fix.

Yeah I only did the two small ones with the resonated xpipe because didn't read about a performance gain, just sound

i dont have cats, nor resonators, just x-pipe two unrestricted straight pipe muffler pipes and factory rear mufflers. Minor drone in that RPM range, but if i drive in E mode it's not there. Too icy, couldn't control at all [:/]
