Is this a thing? Does it look good? My car is at my buddies shop getting tinted now along with a few other exterior mods. Is this something worth bringing up?

I tinted my headlights and taillights, just because I am blacking out my car

Headlights probably a bad decision, because it's hard to see at night

The tint guy on AudiWorld has before and after shots of tail light tint. There might be headlights too but I need all the light I can get.

Funny you ask. I've never really been into the complete black out look for my cars but the red of the tail lights was bothering me lately. After a search here I bought a set of the lamin-x medium smoke tint. Have the box sitting on my desk and going to put it on this weekend if I get a minute. I'll post before/after if I do.

I'm a little worried it'll be too dark but if so I'll just send it back and go to a lighter shade or live with stock.

The C7.5 has slightly tinted/smoked rear tail lights. As long as you don't go dark, you should be good-to-go. I would not tint the headlights.

Looks great. I was on the fence about getting the lightest ting worried that it was too light but I was worried the next one up was too dark. I'll pick up a set

^ I think it really depends on the color of the car on how dark of tint you get.

Thanks

I think it looks great- it's on my to do list for my avant. Some tints look better with certain colors but all in all I like it, just don't over do it

I was really on the fence between the lamin-x medium smoke and the lightest tint. I was hoping I'd be able to look at it on the car before applying but the roll it comes on makes that not possible.

Anyone have experience with their tint that is one level darker than "tint"? If not maybe I'll just apply and yank it off if no good.

Last question -- the lamin-x instructions have very purple looking tint. Any issues with it looking purple on the car or really fading over time? Wondering if I just have the tail lights tinted with real tint instead...

Mine have been on for two years and no issues with it degrading or changing colors. Still looks like the day I installed them.

It was huge a couple years ago in Los Angeles. Rarely see tinted taillights anymore. Cop magnet in my opinion. In certain lighting conditions I believe it is also a danger to others behind you since the brake lights cannot be seen clearly.

Correct, my tails are slightly tinted from the factory...as are the tails on my wife's b9 a4.

My opinion is keep the tint VERY mild if anything

For the OP, here is a second reference point on Lamin-x. This is their 2nd lightest option (one level darker than "tint"). Put it on last night and it probably wont make the cut--my guess is I yank it off but going to gel on it for a day or two. Figured in any case it was worth a $50 experiment to see if I like it better than stock. The reason I was looking at tinting my tail lights is that I was thinking about having my calipers powder coated yellow (essentially something close to the yellow lettering on the license plate), and as a personal preference I don't particularly care for the look of red and yellow together.

Anyhow, added pictures of both shade and sun so you have another data point. Also, it might've just been my install as it's the first time I've done anything like this, but to me the film has a slightly odd reflectivity to it that makes it look like there is a film on the lights which I don't love. If I decide to take this that will be one of the main factors.

I have had lamin-x films on 3 of my past cars, the quality is very good and the fitment is usually pretty spot on. But I agree the film material does make it seem like there is something aftermarket on the lights and I do not like that on this high end of a car. I would try the lightest option from lamin-x as that may give you the desired tint level

Haha. I didn't need a lot of convincing but I think that was the nail in the coffin. It's coming off today. Probably a combination of it being a little dark and my application skills didn't help. For what's it's worth, the fit was very good -- I was a little surprised by that. Just not for me on this particular car...
