View Full Version : Well, it's done!

Before (after the stock Cat fell out of its flange on the highway):

The Parts from my life-long buds at Techtonics Tuning:

After (NEW Techtonics Tuning High-flow Cat):

I am very lucky to have a freind that owns a shop with a lift. Our findings regarding the install tonight:

(1) Have an impact ready to break the old shit off. Don't re-use the old hardware, have new handy. WD-40 works great too!

(2) Have some very long extensions to reach the 12mm downpipe nuts from the bottom side.
And narrow open-end wrenches to fit around the 13mm bolts on top (the welds are huge on this downpipes flange and we had a hard time gripping the top of the bolts to secure them).

(3) Have a tap available incase whomever welded the O2 sensor outlet to the Cat may have gotten debri in the treads. (we were lucky, this didn't happen to us).

(4) Remove the airbox and all place it's associated stuff up and off to the side. (we did this in order to remove the old Cat thru the top).

(5) Sawsall is my friend! We had to cut a few inches off the exsiting exhaust piping aft of the downpipe in order the fabricate a reducer fitting to fit and couple the downpipe and exhaust piping together.

(6) FIND A LIFT otherwise you will cuss until the cows come home!

Ride after install = PRICELESS!

The Turbo accelerates with authority now. I'm not a butt dyno expert... it feels as though it has more oomph when you slam the throttle down. Mid-range response and top-end have improved as well.

Would I do it again? Yes.

Before X-mas? No. (only under this situation I encountered).

I truly would have done it earlier when I did the K04 upgrade if I knew what a difference it makes and cash flow permitting.

So happy I am... Merry Christmas Audi!

And most of all a BIG thanks to the guys at Techtonics Tuning for making such quality performance items!!! [up] [up]

My friend and I would have taken step-by-step pics of everything we did... but due to the Tech FAQ no longer being here, it wouldn't make sense.

Worth switching to a TT downpipe for a PC-16 setup with a milltek high flow cat?

Good job on a nice clean install, you work quick [up] . I remember when this happened to me it was such a headache but going the HFC route was a good choice.

12-21-2005, 02:10 PM
Yeah it took some time to do. Worth the wait!

Thanx for the kudos.

12-22-2005, 02:28 PM
Congrats on the upgrade!!! I'm so excited you are happy with results, getting my turbo back next week installed too!!![wrench]

Nice Hass. I kinda want to go to a HFC also, but will wait untill the stock one dies. Glad to see you finally got the TT DP. TT rocks, they just got done with my GLI, making the turbo back exhaust for it also.

And, TT's borla exhaust for the audis is 2.5, not 2.25.

bahn brenner sells the 2.5" downpipe, same exact thing as the techtonics (i think techtonics makes it for them) and its like $100 cheaper. not sure why, but i got it and quality is excellent.
