Hey guys. Quick question. The dealership here wants a little north of $1700 ($850 for front, $855 for rear). Isn't this an enormous amount to pay for brakes?
Thanks
Kevin

I'd suggest sourcing your own parts online and taking them somewhere for installation. I've switched to Akebono Euro Premium pads, available at Tire Rack. They sell compatible rotors there too.
Practically zero brake dust and have been flawless.

+1 what 07S6 said.
Akebono premium pads are dustless/soundless however stopping power is not that great!! is that true for your car too?

just get stoptech rotors and some low dust pads and install yourself or have a shop do it (you should be under $1000 all in)

I would ask the dealer what parts and labor that involves. They could be replacing the rotors, which shouldn't be needed unless they are damaged. They can resurface the stock rotors and replace the pads. Just removing the cost of factory rotors should put you back around 3-400$ per axle.
Or upgrade rotors Adams rotors makes high quality replacement rotors and also has a selection of pads. I think He is sponsor for the page also.

Thanks for the replies. The guy at the dealership made it sound like it was a package deal of sorts. I am going to go by there Monday and speak with them.

Honestly I don't recall feeling any difference from stock pads/rotors. But I've made this switch on the previous A6 and now the A7 so maybe i just got used to the feel. They grab well enough and with no dust, i would do the same set up all over again.

+1 for akebono pads.
The hawk ceramics aren't bad either. I bought a pair for my RS and had the dealer throw them in - albeit at a much higher price then Brake Masters would have done it for.

Had everything done at an indy that specializes in porsche/audi/vw for less than half of that.

THat's about normal. I had a dealer quote me $900 for just fronts. I went and bought rotors, pads, and VCDS (http://ross-tech.com) for ~$1200 and did it all myself. Plus had VCDS for all the goodness it is.

I have no noticeable loss in stopping power and the near dust-free Akebonos have been fantastic. I'd buy the same again.

I believe this is the route I am going to take.
Thanks for everyone's reply.

you can go even cheaper if you get OBDeleven for $60 from Deutsche Auto Parts, ordered mine on Thursday got it Saturday. Accidently found a cooling fan fault code and fixed right away too. Brakes is on my to do list as well

I need to change my brakes too. I heard u need to disable the rear parking break to take out the rears. Is this accurate?

Not disable but u need to retract the rear pads thru VCDS or OBD11 to remove.
