Hey guys, i tried plenty of things to fix this problem of running rich but nothing is working. I thought it was a boost leak but i did a leak test and found nothing.

What else can it be, on a side note my exhaust sounds poppy when i rev it. Like a choke sound, mostly on the peak and decline of the rev. Can running rich slow me down a lot? thanks guys.

Have you check to see if the maf is good, FPR vac line is good and that your coolant temps are normal?

Did you buy this car new?

What year?
Is it the same maf part # as your stock one?

FPR could be stuck in the closed position causing the fuel pressure in the rail to be too high during off boost.

If you do have a vag, could you get some readings and logs?

off topic, but you still interested in the red spy's?

i still think you got a vacume leak somewhere. Its very odd that its the fpr, but you can be right mike. I dont think with his setup that, the fpr could be the problem. When you did your pressure test, did your gauge read a solid number. Im not insinuating you dont know how to test for vacume leaks, however that happend to me before. I checked for leaks, found none, then it turned out to be a vacume leak, The break boster line. So i would try it again, and run the logs mike is requesting. I think you should find your problem. Running rich will slow you down and most importantly burn your fuel at a much faster rate. Bad for you, bad for the economy...

Define rich. Do you know what your MB 032 fuel trims are?

Well the only way to check the fuel pressure is to have a gauge on it.

Like the others say, try to get the readings of block 032 with the vag. This will give you some idea of how rich it is and even maybe where your leak might be.

If you know someone with a spare 4 bar fpr, then try putting that in and see if the car runs any better.

What turbo and chip are you running? A 5 bar should only be used with a standard K04 chip. Stock FPR should only read 4 bar with the vac line removed.

hey, i replaced a few va lines mainly around the fpr and it feels a whole lot better. I still cant figure out what that low pop from the exhaust is, its not an exhaust leak i checked for that.

It's still the regular K05 program with the K04.

Then it should be running at 5bar unless you upgraded the injectors.

Have you done any vag logs of block 003/031 together to see if it is running a bit rich?

I have some recent ones I will post them up tonight.

Car is undergoing surgery right now with a bunch of things installed prepping it for J31 in the next week or two.

If I do log these blocks, how do I know what the correct values should be? Is there a reference article somewhere on the internet that I could look at and compare?

Thanks!

Well it depends on if your car is pre 2001 or 2001+. But the target reading for the 02 sensor is right around .85, if you need someone to look at them you can always email them to me.

I'll see if I can pull some this weekend sometime. I'm curious to know some of the target values in comparison to what my car is really running. Good thread, thanks for the info!

*EDIT* My car's a 98.5 BTW...
