So my avant 1.8 blew through the coolant line coming out the bottom of the turbo...not fun to get to if not impossible with the turbo on the car. Car is due for timing belt also. I'm tearing the thing down and discover it's had or has oil leaks from the valve cover. So it's a freaking mess..

2 things- the nut on the underside of the stock cat to turbo...what a mf to get to and get off. I can't find a wrench to break it lose...just no room. Then broke off a turbo/manifold bolt in the turbo...

And...why the hell does the turbo have to have that bottom support bar/brace? I can see how people give up or move on from Audi when trying to do some of this work..

Anyways, new turbo ordered, new tip, new diverter, probably a new n75..timing belt/kit...valve cover gasket...

You can also drop the AC compressor to have more room to get the turbo out. You have to use a wobble extension or custom bend a wrench to get to the lower turbo bolt.

thanks for the replies guys, its been a long process, but i know i could do this all in half the time if i had to do it again.

1st pic is my mess i started with. 2nd pic is where i am now. I replaced timing belt/kit. replaced valve cover gasket, and am awaiting a new turbo to throw on the next day or so. I also picked up a 034 diverter, and a TIP. I'm putting on a K04 but will run it with stock tune for a little bit to make its good to go, then i'm planning Motoza tune. My friend actually works with Dave at Motoza so we'll see what all i end up doing with this dog of a 1.8l :)

I bought the car from a Porsche mechanic....I hope he worried about his Porsche more than this car. It was leaking from the valve cover like a mofo and what a mess if you don't take care of it soon....

old turbo vs new turbo. Yes i bought an off brand. they guarantee it for 2 years. So i figured i'd try it. I read good and not great things about Stigan, but I didn't have the cash to go Borg Warner. http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll199/JAM65-91/Mobile%20Uploads/20170327_192240_zpschjjkbdt.jpg (http://s288.photobucket.com/user/JAM65-91/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20170327_192240_zpschjjkbdt.jpg.html)

Got my A4 back on the road. No leaks so far, and new K04 seems to be running fine. Needs a tune now. I can feel it pulling harder but the Tiptronic cuts boost by shifting, which is kind of interesting. I keep my foot in it hard it will keep boosting before shifting but its definitely different now. I wanted to put a test pipe or high flow cat on while everything was apart, but i have to deal with emissions here and couldnt' pull the trigger on a $300 pipe right now after all the cash i just dropped into the thing. I will be going with Motoza and i'll probably do the multi program deal so i can run 91 octane in the winter and run the e85 in the summer. I can hear my tiptronic breaking already...lol
