You may have seen it mentioned on Audizine before about us picking up a Tiptronic B7 A4. Here it is! We have decided to document our journey with this car!

Starting off the JHM B7-A4 Budget Build Series is a quick introduction to the vehicle we purchased for the purpose of this budget build. It is a 2005.5 B7 A4 2.0T with 150k miles. We purchased it for $2500 with the knowledge that it was having transmission issues. In this video we diagnose the transmission issue and begin the

The build is going to serve a couple purposes! We are going to see how far we can take a TIPTRONIC A4 as well as show what can be done on a budget using used/second hand parts when applicable.

You guys wouldn't be interested in doing taking it to the track before the ko4 would you!!! I've been thinking of leaving my APR for a JHM tune and the only thing stopping me is how much better JHM is over APR. If I saw a time slip it would be enough for be to switch.

And lastly, there is an alternative to replacing the water pump when the bearings leaking... just throw some stop leak in it!! That's what my cars p/o did, makes sense right. [facepalm] [headbang]

I'd replace your water pump very soon plus the idler tensioner timing belt because if anyone of those components break it will bend all your valves guarantee and even if you thought something was already replaced do it anyway

Ya it seemed like it was coming from some fan boys, I was actually referring to the b7 archives but also it may have sounded like some people may have had issues when they were beta testing for you? I mean that's the nature of beta testing... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Then again though, pretty much non of the companies that were "so amazing" back then are even still open or in the b7 crowd anymore, they have discontinued all parts/support for it whereas you guys are still developing it, that's huge. The rest of them moved on (read: stasis for one)

There website is still up for whatever reason, but they went under a couple years ago. If you call their number it will take you to a different company.

It does say copyright 2017 which means someone is actively supporting the website, id bet my money it was a competitor whom bought it to then "redirect" their traffic to themselves

I know my boss wants to do just that with our competitors website [>_<]

They're "keep your warranty" deal prooobably didn't work out as well as was advertised

You also have to remember that Drakelore had a go at his own performance parts company by rebranding much of the vast products after they shut down. JHM was his direct competitor for his clutch kits. I did appreciate Shane in what he did with the left over VAST billet aluminum VCs though.

Personally, they were the first to fill the gap of stage 3 alternatives to APR and Stasis etc but poor product fitment issues among other things seems to cause their demise in the B7 section (observation only). I know some local members still service with them.

They did, they just leaned it out though instead of dropping it, you don't need to fully separate it as that requires vacuuming the ac system

Oh I didn't see that, I did use long bolts to help get it away from the car to then slide it underneath, didn't even think of just leaving it there but since it was my first time doing major work to it I wanted all the room possible

You can unscrew the evap from the core support and drop it down. Then you pull the entire support off the car. No need to evacuate the ac.

:O I wish I had investigated this further as I threw my back out leaning over the car for 8-12 hours straight because I couldn't get the front end any further under the car than about halfway (so I was always leaning 1-2 feet over it the whole time) because of the lines running back to the car, you are a genius and I will use this information for next time! I commend your knowledge [hail]

You can even go a step further and unbolt the ac compressor and swing everything to the passenger side of the car. This is what I do when pulling the engine. You have unimpeded access to the front of the car.

Any guesses? I'll give a hint. Its the most important maintenance items before adding power to the 2.0T FSI and are the most common issues for lack of performance.

If it was OEM it could have been prior to Rev G (orange diaphragm) since yours is an 05.5 its very possible!

We ran a 13.5 with a K04-R on a car that ONLY had injectors and HPFP. Stock intercooling and exhaust. SO it is possible but not recommended. We only did this in testing to see the cars ability to keep it safe when it is seeing non ideal conditions.

That's pretty impressive. If you can hit 12.8 in a 3600 pound car, that's close to 340 HP on the pocket HP calculator. Not bad for a K04.

The spindle are the same if it's a a4,s4,rs4

That's not the point though. From a business stand point, it doesn't make sense that JHM would have a product on the market for 2 years and have tuning for it that is less than what they envisioned it should be. It could negatively impact their brand image as a company because someone could say "I bought the JHM K04R kit because it's suppose to flow better than the S3 turbo but it felt underpowered". The kit could be the cat's ass but nobody who owns one knows its full potential because nobody is running it with the optimal software for it. Do you see what I mean?

It then places a small burden on their customers to get the tuning JHM intended it to run on at a later date in good faith that it will be better than the "safe" file. Even if it's a free upgrade from JHM, many dealers charge for labor. Nobody should work for free so that is reasonable. It just sucks that this tune will eventually cost me more money. I would like to get this sorted out so I can move on to other projects.

One guy posted a log. Highest was 260.31 g/s

There are more factors than just elevation. A proper free flowing exhaust will also play a huge part in this. If you can't get air out, you can't get more air in.

Yeh was thinking if you have full mods (not internals), big FMIC, fully upgraded exhaust, all the fueling upgrades needed, not using of the shelf tune, but just pushing to the limits of what the compressor/turbine can handle "reliably", reason I want to know MAF numbers is just that is something I can relate to with the different setups Ive tried, its not completly scientific accurate comparable but you know..

Test pipe and cat back takes care of that. Elevation helps 😀 I’ll take all of the advantages I can get. I just can’t wait to get my meth kit hooked up and get your revised tune. Whatever I can do to help, let me know 😉

I dont run the efr much higher than that, but i need faster spool and a oem lookin engine bay, inspections here are very strict I have to swap the k03 back in everytime, so I think this is the last time Im doing it.

If you guys don’t have a finalized K04 tune ready, can you at least flash APR’s tune on this car and finish this video so we at least have some idea of how this turbo is suppose to perform? Even if it performs like a K04-064, some data is better than none.

I just want to see ONE person do a 13.XX second run close to 100 MPH in a B7 to ease my mind about running this turbo. Showing some data with a competitor’s tune will at least establish a base line.

We have already trapped 100mph on 91oct in this tiptronic car. We have a K04-R 6MT car in our possession right now. The tip gear ratio isn't the most favorable for 1/4 mile runs

So post up the video already. 😀😀 I’d do a run myself but I think I broke my driveshaft bearing. Launches on a 180K New England car has consequences. 🤣🤣

And all of your competitor’s are still using that same 6MT so they have the same limitations as you do. Use the Tip then if you want to beef up your times.

The highest I have ever logged was 272.5 at a couple hundred feet on a nice early October night with GIAC software. I don’t see JHM’s software hitting 300 Gs on this turbo. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.

An employee purchased it, and then sold it to another employee. It's still here with with RS4 rep wheels/ rs4 grill/ and coilovers being daily driven!
