View Full Version : Successful b5 a5 pre-facelift 2.7t swap?

To begin I bought a 99 a4 Quattro 2.8l 5spd for 800 that already had been modded somewhat(lowered, 18's, kame grill insert, windows tinted). I got the car running and I was just going to flip the car, but its grown on me. There aren't many s4's in my area and the car I have now is fairly clean (gonna touch up the paint this spring). I want to upgrade the car's power and braking to modest levels. The local pull-a-parts frequently get A6's with the 2.7t engines so I figured that would be an option as the complete engine can be had for cheap. My main issue is I can't find any solid info on the requirements for the swap on a pre-facelift car. I've been searching for a few weeks now, and the common line is give up or go pes and I don't like either option. Anyhow, so far I understand I would need the engine, power steering lines, complete engine harness, pedal assembly ,and ecu. Where it starts to get hazy is the engine to interior harness portion and dealing with the dbc to dbw. Any help would be appreciated

There was a guy on here who just did it in a 97 or 98, his thread was in the chatterbox IIRC back in Nov- Dec , shoot him a PM

I found a post about a 98 avant that was swapped to the 2.7t, but didn't really go into details of the wiring portion which is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

Thats the one. I would PM the OP for a cheat sheet if he has one.

If you have any other questions aside from wiring I can answer them, as I've done this swap myself on a 2000.

I got ahold of the op, and he is filling me in on the nitty gritty. Now to find a parts car/collect parts.

...Or go with a 4.2 V8 swap.

Did you make progress on this? I've pulled out the DBW wiring from my donor car but I'm not sure what else will be needed.

Any update? I got a 97 A4 with a 2.7t plumbed in but not plugged in and need wiring info.

This might be helpful...

White connector was cut from a dbw body and just plugged in to both the pedal and the ecu, all other wires were chopped.
