I'm not sure if this is where this post goes, but I listed my a4 for sale today and have had a number of people commenting to tell me it's a rare paint code.

Is there anyway to upload a photo from my computer?

Volcano black is a fairly rare paint code indeed.

These people are telling me it adds an extra 1k to the value, which I don't believe.

Its not true those people are idiots volcano isn't that rare. Only colors that really add value are pelican, cactus, india, that 1 purple color. Few select others and only in the 1.8t q manual selection.

But no shade of black is that desirable or rare.

$1000 value.. no. I would have bought this Pelican 2000 near me that has been for sale for months if that was the case. I personally believe the only paint related thing that'd add value, besides having like Pelican, Cactus (not too rare), India, ect, would be having a clean paint job. I'm sure someone would pay a little more for a Volcano black B5, but I'm not sure how much more, and a lot of it depends on how the quality of the paint is.

Not desirable though? Personally, I'd rather a Volcano B5, over my Light silver metallic, that everyone apparently has. Lol. Although I would personally love me a yellow B5. Actually, I always wanted one growing up.

Sorry if that is all jumbled. I'm discombobulated from work and school. Twas a rough day.

I have a volcano Avant. I didn't seek it out or pay extra for it. It was simply what popped up that I could afford. That being said, I did get one hell of a deal on it. Is it a unique color? Yes. Would I have been sad if I had a different color? No. Sometimes it looks too dull or grey to me. But in some lights it shines perfectly. In the Craigslist pictures it looked brilliant black. In person it was different.

As for rarity, I emailed AoA about a year ago for production numbers. I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head, but just over 100 volcano Avants were sold in the US in 1999. I believe 1999 was the only year volcano was sold though, FWIW. IIRC, there were more sedans but not many, maybe 50-100 more. Don't quote me on any of this.

Good luck with sale!

Yeah I wouldn't say volcanos adds much value to the car, but to the right person it might. Its kind of a cool color. I have a cactus avant and I have actually had a couple people approach me about buying it from me (which I turned down), but I wouldn't say it was just the color. Obviously the color helped, but if it wasn't an avant, manual and 1.8, I don't think they would have approached me. I think color can add a little to the price, but what matters a lot more is the cars configuration, and condition.

Also, on a side note, sometimes I think cactus looks bad too. In certain lights its almost bluish, teal, but then the sun hits it and [cool]
