I had just taken my A8 into my shop who in the past has always been very good to me and never recommended anything more than absolutely necessary however last week I took my car in because the front suspension was "squeaking" a little on bumps. I suspected either bushings or lube the airbags or something. My shop is telling me that it's easier to just replace the upper control arms as the bushings are torn (read toasted). However 4 upper control arms are 2600 bucks!! When I see bushings (without labor) are only like 30-40 bucks a piece. Can anyone provide some insight as to why they are recommending replacing the whole arm vs just change the bushings?
Thanks!

If the bushing is gone then more likely the ball joints are gone, which share the same arm. $2600 for control arms your crazy. Go to www.rockauto.com

Good to see another A8/Audizine member here in the Des Moines area. Upper control arm replacement seems as though it is an eventuality with A8s - even going back to the D2 chassis.
I would check around to see where parts could be sourced other than the dealer. Check ECS Tuning, AutohausAZ, etc.
Which shop did you go to? Does it rhyme with "Heckley" ?

$2600 bucks for 2 hours of labor and $200 in parts? Go back and talk to them. They obviously got the labor rates wrong.
