Gents,

I'm driving 2010 S4 S-tronic and due to high oil consumption i was advised to use Millers EE SEMI SYNTHETIC 10w40 oil. Aprox 1L of oil is burnt for 1000-1500km depending on driving style. More in city mileage due to heavy right foot and high revs, lower consumption outside city. I already did around 10K kilometers and I'm out of oil. I went to the same store and now they are confused who advised me to use 10W40.

I checked on Millers website and this oil is really in the list for S4 2010.

Shall i keep using 10W40 EE SEMI SYNTHETIC 10w40 ???

thanks for help

Thats an interesting oil you get over there. In the US, I'm not sure we have any semi synthetics that are able to meet A3/B3 or VW502. You guys do get some better formulations ( you also have many 5w-30 and 0w-30 that meet it when ours from the same manufacturer dont). Technically it meets the specs but in honestly i'd have to wonder why bother using a 10w-40? It is only thicker on startup which would accelerate ring wear, not help it. I'm not tribologist so I'd ask the guys on BITOG but it seems to me youd want to use a 0 or 5w 40 or if you wanted to go thicker to help with burning oil then I believe over there you all even have some 0w-50 and 5w-50 oils. BTW, this assumes your issue is burning oil through the rings and you have ruled out any PVC issues.
